High Speed Wobbles!?!

I took my 600 double R to the track for the first time yesterday. Running stock, first time I have ever raced in my life my lowest time was a 7.5 at about 108mph in an eighth. Near the end of the track, on more than one occasion. I went into a terrifying high speed wobble. Almost lost it a couple of times. What causes this and what can I do to prevent it from happening again?

explain what you did when it happened.

if you came out of a corner and got on it, then got wobble, that's normal because those bikes are made real twitchy to take tight turns, so the stability isn't the greatest, when you get on it, the front end gets light then causes headshake.

get a steering dampner. almost all new bikes need them because of their frame geometry, they are made to handle great, which means less stability. its' always a good investment.

also, you could have been a little crossed up when the front end got weight back on, usually that's what happens.

It was a straight eighth mile track. I'm pretty sure my front end was down near the end. Lightens off the line and when I shift into second, but down at the end. It just started wobbling while I was accelerating. I stiffened up my arms and fought with it for about 50ft and all of a sudden it just stopped. Scared the hell out of me.

to stop wobble you have to accelerate through it. if you let off hte throttle when it's wobbling, it makes it worse.

sounds to me like normal thing, it happens during acceleration and the front end is light and if you aren't perfectly strait when you come down it happens.

i would get a dampner. they are a great safety device.

hows the front tire, old or new, also invest in a steering stabilizer.

I haven't had my 600RR all that long but I have yet to experience bad wobbles. The only time my bike has wobbled was around 140mph and I just powered through. Although I think it might because of my body weight, I weigh about 200lbs

binder is right. you need to stay on the gas, but it's just as important that you DON'T fight it. even though it's hard to fight your instinct you need to lighten up your grip and keep the trottle open. your bike's front wheel will naturally straighten out from the centrifical force of the wheels spinning. i'd recommend the scotts too.
