Here's some tips that have been dicussed previously:

Probably should stay away from scrape bars at first bar unless you wanna go for a ride. If you come down on it crooked you will get tossed. The rear tail section will give some... a bar won't.

As far as standing or sitting its mostly just personal preference. Do you feel more comfortable with standup or sitdown wheelies?
For me it was sitting down.

Also, it helps learning on a ATV first.

Check out this thread for some more tips:

lots of people say that it's easier to learn standing up but then you kinda have to re-learn sitting down. where as if you learn sitting then you can go to standup really easily.

and the atv helps alittle for brake control, but don't think if you can rock an atv a bike will be easy. totally diffrent ball game. least for me it was.

me too. I had never ridden an ATV and I 12'd it. all it trains you to do is get used to that rear brake. I would learn sitting down. I find it easier for me than standing up, which is usually the oposite. but I guess thats a good thing.

Whichever you are most comfortable with. I tried sitdowns forever and couldn't get it. I finally went to the left foot back peg standing up and was scrapin' in about a week.

I started sitting down then started standing, Now I can't do them sitting- if I start out sitting I always stand up right as I get to 12. I don't know why but I can't control my body anymore
