2003 r6 running crappy

not really sure how to explain my problem but i'll try my best. so 2 weeks ago i was riding and out of no where my bike starts studdering and maybe missing a little bit while i was sitting at a stop sign (i have to rev it higher now just to get moving or it dies) and the exhaust note changed (it has a throaty sound like a vtwin now oddly). i changed the spark plugs it helped a little but didn't fix my problem my air filter is pretty dirty but i wouldn't think that'd be the problem it did have bugs and crap on it when i took it out though but it didn't seem extremely bad but maybe i should start by replacing that? the bike does have a power commander if theres any way it could of messed up the fuel ratio? the bike backfires but it has been doing that before the problem started. any idea of what could be the problem would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Change the a/c since you said it looks dirty; most likely that will soot or rich'en up the mix. Plus, the PC may not like the cooler weather. So, for test purposes, you remove the hot side of the PC's wire. You remove the ground, she is still grounded to the injectors.

If it clears up, it was one or the other. So, the easy one now is to take the PC out of the loop, ride it, see if the problem cleared. If not, then the air cleaner is the next to test for the hesitation/poor idle symptom.

if youve never brought it in for the coil pack recall then you need to. 03 r6's have **** coil packs that go out, mine went at around 9k miles.

Re: 2003 r6 running crappy

so should i buy the coils myself and install them or should i take it to my local dealer? since it's a recall, does that mean yamaha pays to fix it?

Ya take that thing in to yamaha they will do the recall for free or you can do what I did and get them to order the coils and put them in your self and give them your coils and tell them just take the money for doing the work but you will do the work your self. I did that because I dont let dealerships work on my bikes they always **** something up. like forget to put a bolt back or a wire ty and is ***** something up. So hope that helps.
