Fork seals
Fork seals
Ok so changing front ends is getting old. I have been riding 600rr for. Years now. Got a new 06 about 3 months ago and I have blow 6 600rr fork seals and went to a 1000rr front end and have blown 4 of them. All factory forks. I don't rebuild them I just put on different forks and a whole new 1000rr front end. They last between 2 and 3 weeks. What's the deal here? My other 600rr I blew them once in like 2 years.
Re: Fork seals
I think Kato the guy installing seals at the factory just drinks too much saki. I had a pair of 06 600rr forks with 600 miles on them fail within the first month , replaced them and havent had a problem with seals in 2.5 yrs.
Re: Fork seals
Dont go up in oil Weight. that ends up causing problems. i seen it in Savage Lins bikethis weekend. my suspension is revalved by RG3 suspension and they only use 5wt because it has a tendency to break down less which causes it to be more consitant stoppie after stoppie. also the change the valving so its more progressive and has better resistance to bottoming when slamming down circle wheelies. RG3 is new to the street scene. but they helped me dial my bike in right were i want it. all of this also helps with blowing out seals. the only thing that does cause issues is if i tie my bike down all crazy tight...
if you have any questions you can hit them up at www.RG3SUSPENSION.com
you gotta think in ever other sport out there that invovles some sorta suspension... theres major benefits to upgrading. in dirt, to be competitive you must revavle, in car racing, truck racing, everything...
the factorys dont design them for what we do...
also i know everyone has seen how the axle carrier, AKA lower fork leg... comes loose "supposdly" on all kawis only... well this can happen to any front end with similiar design. stock f4i front end is ok, but gixxers, yamahas, hondas, kawis.. with the inverted front end... all need to be watched closely. RG3 did a modification to mine, they added a shim and set screw to prevent this from happening..
sorry for the long post.. when it comes to suspension theres alot that can be said.
haha alright im off to the lot!

I always ran 20wt and never had a problem
Re: Fork seals
Well none of that helps at all lol personally I have seen Jason and Rowdy roll millions of stoppies over 700 feet each and I'm proud to say there the ones that coached me and I'm doing ok so I'm going with the atl style.
Re: Fork seals
damn all the money u spent in new front ends u coulda bought a new bike
i got 06 600 rr front end on my f4i and the left seal was shot and had a buddy rebuild them for about 150 includingparts with stock weight but heavier duty seals (get new wipers to) and they have lasted for ever, they will probably last longer then the motor
i think stock is like 7 weight or so idk been awhile but they have to build em in fluid etc i dont know the process so i paid him to do it right

heavy duty seals

the best seals are OEM seals

I don't know why 1000rr's seem to blow seals quickly, or why OP has blown so many seals
but if you do the seal job right, and don't ride in overly dirty conditions, and your forks aren't damaged in some way, then fork seals should easily last 8k+ miles..
And if your seals blow, make sure to check both bushings in each fork leg... If they are worn much at all, REPLACE THE BUSHINGS!
