last year i broke my key off in my 04 gsxr750 no biggy got a used igntion of ebay for 80 bucks. put it on and now my bike wont start and is throwing a c42 code im pissed off now cus i threw my old igniton away over the winter i just did research and this code is impossible to fix it i heard it could be a fried diod or a bad ignition but i have no way of checking so i wll be spending more money to get it fixed what else could it possibly be a friend told me i caused it by not disconnecting the battery when changing the igntion is that true and is there a way to reset somthing

 

there is no way it would affect your bike if you unhooked the battery. i got a igntion off of a 04 gsxr 750 and put it on my 03 gsxr 600 and it worked just fine. how do you know you dont got a bad igntion???

 

check the wires that go to the coil...... if any are grounding out....... it will mess up.

 

also check the large relay on the fuse block behind your faring stay. Mine burned up before and the bike was dead in the water. didnt make a sound when turning the key.

 

today and i noticed the plugs were different colors ( green , black) and wire colors didnt match either is this the problem? i checked the ignition out by hookin t up to my 02 gsxr and it worked fine on that and the wire colors were the same so i think i was sold the wrong ignition now im wondering if the correct ignition wll solve this problem. i didnt unhook the battery when i put it on

 

unhooking the battery should have no affect on weather it works or not i think you got the wrong part if nothing is matching up
