Re: welding with the gas tank still on??

you can weld with the tank on. "de-pressureize" it first to vent the bulk of the fumes by opening the cap, then close it up again.. weld in a well-vented area, and UNPLUG THE ECU!
i can't stress that enough. no matter what the process (SMAW, FCAW, ect..)

you'll be fine man. i do it all the time.

engine control unit.. under the seat.. the black box that controls the engines functions. just unplug it and set it aside away from the welder and where you're welding at.

that way no hot spalls have a chance to torch the case and no electromagnetic pulses from the welder's transformer core will **** up the **** inside the ECU. some of the little coils inside there have a set magnetin value for a certain amount of inductance needed.. a strong magneting field or pulse ill change it and if it's something like AC power (like for aluminum) it'll wipe out the magentism all together.

electronics **** there, but nonetheless, you don't wanna have to buy a new ECU cuz it got popped with welder backfeed or EMP or anything else..
