Re: how to install a Manual Cam Chain Tensioner zx6r 07
if it goes away when its warm its not your cct, its your valves which is normal for kawis. a cct noise is like when you free rev your engine to like 12k and as it drops in rpm between like 9k and 6k it will rattle/buzz. atleast thats how its been in my experience. i know those 07 zx6r's had some factory problems with their vavle covers or some **** so you might wanna research that. in any case if it is your cct you can try just tightening your stock one. the way to do that is this. theres 2 bolts on the cct. loosen them up like 2 turns real slowly but dont get crazy and listen for the click of the cct letting itself out a notch. once you hear the click then just tighten the bolts back up and it will have self adjusted itself. if that doesnt do the trick then go with an aftermarket one but alot of ppl have good luck with the self adjustment of the stock one.

how do u fix the valves ??? i fix the valve cover already put a new gasket on 5 months ago. i though it would be the cct
Re: how to install a Manual Cam Chain Tensioner zx6r 07
No, just get the clearances and use a valve lash tool. You basically stick it in to measure the clearance and then tighten it until its at the specifiec amount. I wouldnt worry too much about it though, the bike should run fine even if they are out of adjustment a little.
Oh, Ive used manual cam chain tensioners on f4is and Im not impressed. Yes the stock ones fail but I have seen more bad then good with the manuals unless you are willing to adjust it a lot and spend time dialing it in correctly...just my opinion though.

i doubt your valves are out of adjustment. most bikes arent even scheduled for valve adjustments til like 26000 miles and even then most of the time theyre still within spec. like i said if it goes away once the bike is warmed up then its fine. kawis are infamous for that tick, my gsxr would even do it too.
Re: how to install a Manual Cam Chain Tensioner zx6r 07
yeah i only 5300 on my bike and i read this on some sites alot
Sounds like the CCT or cam chain tensioner. It goes away when warm because everything expands and takes up the slack. Replace the stock cct with a manual one. kawasaki make a manual but i cant say i like em very much i would go with an APE manual tensioner i'll try to find there site and most bike shops carry them. There really easy to do just remove the old tensioner hold down bolts and remove it, then install the manual one full loose until you have the mounting bolts tight. then use your thumb and index finger as tight as you can go with those two fingers set the locking nut and bam race ready lol. If you have a whinning noise under exceleration your to tight but with that method you should be dead on with no tick or slop in the chain. Some people say you can have a cam gear spin when taking the old tensioner out. Thats your call i have done several on bikes and cars aswell and thats never happened to me. APE click on kawasaki scroll all the way down you will see the tensioner

Re: how to install a Manual Cam Chain Tensioner zx6r 07
not tryin to bust you out bro, but it's shim-under-bucket and not a threaded tappet

i'd try bumping the CCT EXACTLY 1 CLICK. i had an 07 in my shop with te same noise and he's a stunter as well.. said it made all the difference in the world on performance as well.
you'll need a long *** extention on a 1/4" drive.. and an 8MM for the CCT mounting bolts.
oh.. do this in a quiet *** place..
-take the tank off..
-locate the CCT under the #4 (throttle or right side of the bike) cylinder
-loosen the lower bolt about 1/4"
-slowly loosen the top bolt until you hear a VERY faint and light click from the tensioner (it'll only be .020" before the next click. avoid that at all cost)
-thats it! tighten back down to the specified torque and go ride (after you button everything back together)
honestly, 9 outta 10 times that **** is cam chain slap. a quick test is to "load" the chain with a throttle blip. if it quiets down on accel, its definitely the CCT. as well, if it does it at any operating temp. or, if you'r noticing a loss in power and gas milage..
valves will be noisy when cold then when the cam lobes, shims and buckets and all that **** expand with heat soak, they'll quiet up.

Re: how to install a Manual Cam Chain Tensioner zx6r 07
valves make noise on kawi's really no matter what.. mine ticked alittle from the factory. get over the little noises, when something is wrong internally you will know it. put a can on it so you drowned out some of the engine noise
