Bad Backfire on 97 TL1000S ?

i bought this 97 TL1000S a few months back. it's been great to me, no problems i couldn't handle... until now. i was riding out to meet up with some stunt friends and it just began backfiring reeeaaaaaaaalll bad, load, POAHW!!! and i let it cool off then jumped back on and kept going. got to the stunt spot, popped some wheelies and what not, no problems. got on the road and it got worse, started dying and backfiring constantly. got home, checked air box, vacume hoses, changed spark plugs, tryed changing the power commander (low, mid, high). i don't know what to do. it runs, but like crap. it acts like it's not getting power. i have to down the throttle to go anywhere and sometimes it randomly kicks back in like normal but as soon as i let off, it goes back to crap.

i'm thinking, if the voltage is bad (regulator or stator) would that be the issue? i don't think it would be the power commander, if it was, it would of had the problem when i got it. i don't have money to take it in.

unplug the pc and plug the main harness back together......that will rule out the pc as the issue.

i just went out and looked, it's wiring straight into the harness, i'd have to cut and crimp a lot. a guy from a shop told me suzuki does some weird stuff when they don't get voltage. i took it in a while back cuz i couldn't get it to start, but it charges fine and the battery just needed some long riding and it fixed itself. the orignal mechanic said it could use a new regulator.

if it is like the one I had it should just plug into the main harness, but the regulator would create the issues you mentioned if it's on its way out.

well it's pretty much hot wired in there, the shop i called i regularly go to, they said they would test it for free but the regulator is 100 and the stator is 100. i'll let you know how it goes, thanks mayne.

the exhaust was vibrated loose coming out of the front cylinder. and the gasket is worn real bad. i tightened it and knocked it back in snug and the bike ran like normal again had more power. i just need to get new gaskets.
