F4i problem
F4i problem
Having a wiring problem again
My headlight fuse keeps blowing. I havent had a chance to look at the bike yet but thats not really the problem. When my headlight fuse blows the bike wont start. I dont know why the headlight fuse is affecting the starter but the fuel pump kicks over but the bike just wont start. Was curious to see if anyone had any ideas about this and why this would happen
I'll probably look at the bike later to see whats up with the wiring and why I keep popping fuses but if anyone has any insight as to why the headlight fuse popping would affect my bike starting, I'd appreciate it

Dont know if this will help at all but I just had a problem with my RSX car.
If you dont use dielectric grease on the prongs of the bulb or if there are other reasons that are causing increased resistance the wires will get hotter than normal and blow fuses.
Also make sure you are using a standard bulb and dont touch it with your fingers, but that would be more of a reason that the bulb would blow not the fuse. Check if there are pinches or anything in the wiring.
Also the controls should be looked at and cleaned greased, the starter button and headlight are connected in the right hand control. When you hit the starter it interrupts the headlight.
I had an issue with the right control on my 99 f4 AND HAD TO RIDE HOME W/ NO LIGHT A FEW TIMES . f*^^% CAPS LOCK BUTTON!

Good lookin on the effort though. I'll check the starter switch to see if anythings happening there - might be coz I tossed my bike around like crazy yesterday but the headlight shouldnt affect the starting which is where im stuck
Re: F4i problem
take the wiring off and just redo it and hook it up correctly so you wont blow fuses in the first place. its possible that the wiring for the headlight could run in a direct line with the starter for the ecu. you never know. or you have 2 wires that are tripping each other in the harness.

Re: F4i problem
Im not worried about the wires touching. im gonna find out whats causing the fuse to blow (hopefully anyway). Im wondering why the bike wont start when the headlight fuse blows
Re: F4i problem
If so, maybe someone that owned hte bike before you wired it different.. Maybe they use the headlights power wire for the ignition switch or something..
Whatever it is, something is DEFINITELY hooked up wrong.. I'm pretty sure my f4i is fine without headlights..
Then again, does the headlight fuse also control the tip sensor?
Re: F4i problem
is your wire harness spliced and all ghettod?

Re: F4i problem
yeah i know that - im just wondering why blowing the headlight fuse is affecting my bike starting. The tip sensor has its own fuse. I gotta get someone that I ride with to remove their headlight fuse and see if their bike starts up. If it does then I have something wrong somewhere.
Re: F4i problem
Your headlight fuse is affecting the SPARK for the bike.....This is why your fuel pump primes, bike turns over, but it doesnt SPARK....As which we all know, spark + fuel is RUN.....I honestly have no clue why the headlight fuse blowing is causing the sprak to die. But i would be willing to bet that somewhere in your wiring harness a wire from the headlights and a wire for your coils is crossing. Causing the headlights to blow the fuse since that fuse is the smallest one, its gonna blow first.....=-)
PS: We cant just blaim the headlights. Since the headlights, blinkers, tach, tip sensor, fan and several other parts share the same GROUND wire. One problem with that ground wire anywhere in the wiring and it could cause the headlight fuse to blow...Anything is possible when it comes to a circuit.....=-)
PS: Have you tried jumping a wire over the fuse block. Just to see if it would run without melting the wire. Also have you tried a bigger fuse....Neither of these is the BEST thing to do, but im just throwing some ideas...=-)
