Best sproket set-up for r6
Best sproket set-up for r6
I love how light my R6 is, but im not used to the lack of power that it has, compared to my zx9 and 929.
i was wondering if anyone knows what the best set-up was?
i have acctually read, someone on stuntlife keeping the stock chain.
please help.
im not having any problems so far just getting a little used to it.
some trouble with 12's, she wants to run low on RPM's and stall.

getting sprockets wont raise your power just how quickly the torque gets from the bike to the ground. try 1 down 5 up or so, if its not enough you can just drop one more in the front so your like 1 down 8 up
sorry
I didnt mean it has no power, i mean this thing is bad ***.
it is so light and nimble.
i've read post of people saying that it is hard to stunt an R6 and i think they are crazy, maybe they just need to get the feel for it.
one of the guys on our team has tried to stunt it and cant stand it.
i just want to be able to roll slower than i am now, with more ease of lifting quick.
i know this all comes with practice and getting more used to the bike, but if someone out there is more experienced with the R6 i would love input.
anyway thanks for all of the replys
for the changes that you guys have made, will the stock chain work?
or would i need to get another?
thanks

P.S. do any of you have a steering dampener and if so what kind, i posted not to long ago about one and some guys told me that the ones that shugg sells will do the trick.

A stock R6 chain is a 532. This is just such an abnormal chain size that you really want have very good sprocket/chain selection with. And it's hugely oversized for the R6.
Most people switch to a 520 setup. But, for the abuse you're going to give it, you might want to try a 525. You should have good sprocket selection this way.
I'm not sure about sprocket selections. I still have my stock chain and sprockets (16k miles, just takes good maintenance). The only wheelies I do are 2nd gear really, so the slow stuff I can't help you with. There are a couple people doing 12's on the R6. One of the guys from BTB riders has a R6 that he 12's -- he posts here, you might try finding him.

Also, if you change sprockets, you're probably going to have to end up going to a smaller chain size just due to the sprocket limitations of a 532. But, even if you find what you're looking for in 532, you really should change them all at once. They wear together. When you don't change everything at once, the wear is uneven and thusly becomes very exaggerated and you will have even less chain/sprocket life -- something that sucks when you are using aluminum sprockets which don't last as long anyway. Just try to keep the wheelbase the same as stock to preserve it's suspension geometry. If you go -1/+5, you'll need like 4 links over stock chain length.
hey i really appreciate it, i was gonna just swap sprokets just to see if i liked it, i have no real problems with the stock so far.
i just need to get in some more practice.
ill have my cage and 12 bar for the R6 any day now, i cant wait.
those things are great.
if you do not have one i suggest getting one, no broke plastic. or case covers.
are you haveing any problems with tank slappers?
i just cant make em stop.
i got to get my **** together and buy a dampener.
if you have any more tips and tricks please let me know

The only time I get any front end wobble is when I'm pretty well balanced (usually about 75-80 indicated I'd guess in 2nd) when the front wheel stops spinning. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. I don't have a damper (never needed one when I was in FL) -- but I'm getting one soon now that I live in CA and have all these awesome twisties to ride. I stll rarely get headshake and I ride pretty hard; I attribute this to good suspension setup. 1 wheel slappers/headshake are different than 2 wheeled twisty ones, though.

i mean it has less power than the bikes you used to have but damn theres more than enough power you need to get the R6 rockin
