F4i starter motor question

Just installed a new to me motor and Im having a whole slew of problems. Spoke to omr who advised me that one of my problems may be a shotty starter motor. Ive never removed one before so I looked at the service manual as well as my old motor. The service manual says to drain the coolant, remove the throttle bodies, remove the thermostat housing and then remove the nut and starter motor cable from the starter motor in order to be able to get the starter motor out.

Service manuals from what Ive seen so far tell you to do a whole bunch of unneccesary **** so I was just curious if anyones done it before and if so, did you do it this way or is there an easier way to get to it Checking out my old motor it seems as if I may have to do all this but figured Id ask before getting busy tomorrow. This might not even fix the problem Im having but its worth a shot. Oh and FYI - installed new to me motor. Bike was starting up from a cold start no problem. When the bike would warm up it wouldnt start as easy. It would turn over but not start. After a minute or two I would give it another go and hold the throttle open while trying to start and after 5 or so seconds it would start. So far, I fully charged the battery and swapped stators with my old motor but still the same thing is happening. Tonight though after the bike warmed up, I tried to start it and now it wont start at all - even after a few minutes of letting it cool down

Other things Ive changed - new plugs, swapped coil packs from old motor, swapped throttle bodies & fpr from old motor and used my existing wiring harness, regulator/rectifier, computer, ect. and thats about it. Appreciate any info on removing the starter motor or any helpful info if any of yall have had this happen before

Re: F4i starter motor question

Oh and one more question - if its absolutely necessary to do it the way the manual says, the manual calls for a new O-Ring to be installed when putting the thermostat housing back on. If I reuse the existing one will that be a problem or could I use it so I dont have to wait til I get a new one

Re: F4i starter motor question

i dont know for sure, but im pretty sure you can just pull the motor itself. i have a spare starter if you need it, when i pull it out, i can tell you what you need to remove.

I got the one off my old motor so I should be good with that but good lookin homie I cant see how to pull the motor without doing all that other But the manual always has you do some stupid **** that doesnt need to be done. When I swapped this motor last week I looked at the manual just coz this was the first time swapping a motor by myself and lord they said to do some crazy unnecessary ****

Re: F4i starter motor question

this description differs a little from what you were posting earlier , when the bike is hot does the starter sound like it is laboring more then when the bike is cold ?

i mean when the bike is hot does the starter sound like it is spinning slower then when it's cold ?

When the bike is cold it starts right up but when the bike is hot it starts up slower. Normally it would start right up after a few tries but the starter would sound like its spinning slower but last night it just died completely and wouldnt start at all when I left the garage. I took some video but didnt have a chance to put it on the puter yet. Whatcha think? Anyone? Ima swap starters tonight following the manuals directions and go from there I suppose

my friends does the same thing, starts perfect when its cold, when its hot he has to lay the bike on its side for it to start or push start it. we replaced the regulater and stator that didnt help, battery is new, replaced the whole wiring harness, were gonna try a starter motor now and replace the ignition.

Re: F4i starter motor question

I love stunt life dont post much on here but i scope out a lot of info... Thanks for the help guys, turned out my starter had bad contacts from being dirty, i pulled it out and cleaned it, worked sweet for about 2 seconds, its about then i noticed the spacer on my work bench.. the spacer out of the back of the starter.. It smelt real bad, fused and fucked all the starter internals lol

New starter and my bike is workin fine... i wish i had have looked into the clean air mod whilst my bike was all appart though... Ill do it next time its in bits (not too often with a Honda : )
