4 point specialty frame/swingarm sockets?
4 point specialty frame/swingarm sockets?
i used the search feature and no luck. i know ive seen threads about this before but cant remember.anyone know where i can get a set of these? the nut on my clutch on my crf50 uses one also. they are the funky looking nuts on frames and swingarms that are put there on purpose by the manufacturer so you have to pay a rediculous price for the tool, make your own thats crooked and sucks, or take it in to a shop and keep the stealerships in business.
Re: 4 point specialty frame/swingarm sockets?
If you are talking about the castle nuts, then you have a few options.
If it is going to be used frequently, I would advise buying the "special" tool from the dealership. I think I paid about $50 for the Kawi one.
If you only need it a couple times, you could grind down an old socket to fit. I've done this also, but can be kinda a P.I.T.A. if it doesn't fit exactly. I've had these break, bend, and scratch.
If you are only going to need it once, use a flat blade screwdriver and a hammer and tap the nut off. This isn't practical if the nut is deeply recessed.
Hope that helped some.

I think you are talking about the axle tool...

I think he is looking for the castle nut tool...

Then again... I could be completely wrong.

Re: 4 point specialty frame/swingarm sockets?
I'm not sure if you are going to find any castellated nut tools aftermarket since just about every manufacturer uses different sizes.
1. If you can access the nut fairly easily, then you can use a punch and hammer and tap it off. Unfortunately, you cannot torque the nut back down using this method.
2. Second option would be to make your own out of an old socket the same size and dremmel away.
3.. Third option would be to bite the bullet and buy the specialty socket from the stealership. I came across a few performance shops that sold the castellated sockets, but they were just as expensive as the stealership.
Figure $50 for the smaller engine sockets, and $80-100 for the larger swingarm ones.
Post up if you find some cheap ones.
