flip up tag

so along with the new 50 over law in florida they also made improper tag display law sky rocket to a 1000 dollar fine first offense, 2500 second, 5000 third and you lose your bike.

so how can i make a home made tag mount that mounts in the "proper" location that i can easily reach back and fold in if need it be?!?!

Re: flip up tag

get a spring loaded hinge that springs to the open position and springs back to the closed position, and use velcro strips to keep it closed.

this isn't necesarry if you always wear a full face helmet and cover any identifiable marks, scars, or tats when you ride.

Re: flip up tag

I was thinking of using a door hinge and to keep it open or closed, neodinium earth magnets which are like 10x stronger than regular fridge magnets for the size. You could see the velcro on the plate, but a magnet could fix behind the plate.

You can buy a purpose built one http://www.speedflip.com/motorcycle.html

Re: flip up tag

go to home depot and get a piano hinge cut it down to size and then use the magnet or velcro to hold it in the up position.

What the hell r you guys doin in FL that they are cracking down so hard. A 1000$ fine for no tags is insane let alone losin your bike. Here Im not even sure if that ticket exceeds 100$ but i know its no points

If I were to make one, this is probably how I would do it. You could get fancy with an electric servo motor, but it isn't necessary.

Re: flip up tag

I actually ride with my tag bent up really bad and i had a cop stop me at a gas station while i was fueling up and just told them i had a little mishap and didnt see how bad the tag got damaged and just bent it for him until he left! LoL I live in Miami, so unless im in the turnpike, no one really bothers in my area. But BSO will break you in half if in broward!

I don't have the pic of it down. But this is what I was rocking before I got the F/E on my 08 CBR. It's actually a piano hinge that I bent a lil bit so that it stays up when I flip it.

Re: flip up tag

if your going to be stupid, put your tag under your seat.

If your pulled over for tag display, just say it fell off and some kind hearted citizen picked it up and followed you to the next intersection and that you plan on putting it back on when you return home

this is the stuntshine state yo! a senator in miami did a ride along with a cop. saw them tearing it up down south and decided to end all the fun for us bikers.

at first it was a 30 over law. if you were caught doing 30 over you were to lose your license for 10 years and a shitload of fines. even if you were to come off the ground an inch your bike was to be impounded and never returned and your endorsement gone for 10 years.

the abate team stepped in and got it reduced. it was originally just for bikes, but now the abate said that was profiling and now its set for cars too. but now its a 50 over law. and improper tag mount is just at illegal as a wheelie now but its on a 3 strike rule. first time its 1000 dollars, second time its 2500, third time its 5000 dollars and you lose your bike forever and your license for 10 years. so say i get fined 3 times for improper tag display, i lose everything and they take me to jail and it is now considered a felony.

im glad my dirtbike is almost together, because i def wont be havin fun on the streets anymore. i used to be easy to get away, now they have the chopper out all the ****** time. just aint worth it anymore.

Its just a self closing cabinet door hinge. You can get them at a hardware store.
