sprocket nut tool???

Does anyone know if there is a special tool to remove the front sprocket nut on a 04 zx10r? I think it has a 27mm lower with large rounded edges (socket slips) and a 4 sided 23mm upper on the same nut that is calapsing when trying to turn it.

Re: sprocket nut tool???

did you make sure to pry down the lock washer?

And these things are a bitch to get off.. expect to use a good impact on it, or a 6 foot cheater bar with a board wedged in the wheel (Do not put it in gear to hold the wheel, unless you like the idea of prying against your motor)

Re: sprocket nut tool???

this is the way i did it...

i used a long extention as a punch and tapped on all 4 corners with a hamer...
then i hit it with the impact, let off, hit it again and stayed in it and the bitch came right off....

and believe me... i fought it for 3hours before i did this, i know its a bitch.... just make sure you bend back the lock washer and i used a 1 1/16" socket

IF you aren't snapping your breaker bar, then you aren't trying hard enough!

Forget getting a sprocket nut off a newer bike

try getting an axle nut off a 88 honda! Broke 2 1/2" breaker bars!

edit: btw when I have a stuck bolt, I usually use a breaker bar, with a 6 foot pole.. Enough to snap the breaker bar with my 145lb 5'11 frame lol
