Basic wheelie question...

Hey,
I just bought a bike and I am going to try and learn to wheelie(gotta start somewhere...). Now, when you clutch it up, do you try and go past "point of ballance and brake back to it, or do you try and stick point of ballance in the first place?

PS This is my first post, so I guess I will introduce myself. My name is Chris. I am a Mechanic in Houston working on Street/race cars... mostly Vettes and F-bodies.... I bought an '03 ZX6 mostly becuase Kawasaki Financing was $39 a month with 3.9% interest for 3 years. I will worry about how to pay for it in a few more years. I am pretty happy with the bike and it seem sto perform VERY well for a 6.

nah dont try to bring it past the balance point youll def loop it ... if youve never tryed to wheelie it b4 .. for me the clutch method is the best and it seems a lot more controled ... when your in 1st goin about 20-25 and your rpms are at about 5k ... pull the clutch in (not all the way, about and inch) rev it up to about 7,500 and slip the clutch out .. basically just get goin to a pretty decent acceleration ... when your at about 5k slip in the clutch and dump it and youll go up ... as you get better at bringin it up the balance point will come ...

First to start off, learn how to double rev it up. Thats gasing it leting off and gassing hard all in one motaion. After that then start playing with the clutch, start by droping the clutch at about 5000 rpms and see what that does, then move to 6000, then 7000 ect ect..... Really the best way to learn is to find someone that rides better then you and ride / hang out / B.S. with them and learn everything they can teach you.

Just remember to ride at your limit and not the bikes, you will improve with time. And always wear your gear.

Well, I have pulled it up a few times, but only a foot at the most. I have not gotten the "nads" to pull it up in search of the ballance point yet. I guess I will keep easing it up a little higher until I hit a good point.

Thanks,

PS anyone in Houston wanna play teacher or at least go riding. I work 70-80 hours a week, but any time I am not working, I will ride. I figure when I am old, I will sleep.
