chain & sprocket ?

Is it ok to run 2 master links? I need to add some links to a chain so I don't have to buy a new one. I've heard of some guys doing this, are there any down sides? It seems to me that it would be ok.

Actually thats just a chain question, not a chain & sprocket question. LOL
