i have a 2000 gsxr 750 with a 01 gsxr 750 engine in it. idles inconsistant and when you rev it up it blows black smoke out the exhaust... obvisously gas not oil, at bout 4-5000 rpm it bucks, and is only getting 20-25 mpg... any ideas?

You need a PCIII to get it to run a bit leaner....if it has a pipe and Air filter it will cause it to run very rich...but also they have had some that the valves allow a bit of blow by or oil to pass...mine was just rich and the PC cleared it up and makes it idle a ton better...smooth

Sounds to me like he is having other issues on the bike

 

Gsxr's its cuse the pipe and filter with no PC...

 

why would OPENEING the exhaust and intake, make it run rich though?


My friends don't have problem with their gixxers without Power commanders

and can't you tune a gixer without a power commander?

 

u can with a motty or a Bazza but its the same thing as a PC...the change in Air and exhaust make the map have lean spots and rich spots...my 01 and my 06 both ran rich as hell in the low end due to a Pipe and BMC. thats why yosh says to snip the Brown wire with a black stripe when you put there pipe on due to it will kick the Fi light from the Diff in stock to aftermarket pipe.....its common so snip the wire re map it and its good I know I just finished putting my PC on and its night and day diff....

 

Dude its nothing to worrie about my 01 did the same thing....little puff on hard revs.....

 

The pipe and air cleaner makes it run lean not rich. It allows more air into the fuel charge and less back pressure with the pipe will make the low end run rough. My 750 has alittle of the same problem it lopes and puffs alittle when i clutch it up. The sad thing is unless you have what powercommander has for maps you have to just keep messing with the fuel curve.

 

gsxr's are notorious for tps going bad ..

 

That is true if you are getting a fi light in the tail there is a plug in just use a jump wire and count the flashes of light and I have a manuel and I will get you what the code means.

 

the fi light is on... what do i do crashtest?

its a lot of smoke though when i rev it up... it IS gas not oil and like i said, its getting 25 mpg at best. it does have a art slip on but thats it... i do not think that adding the pipe would make that much different but i bought the bike as it is now

 

there is a plugin in the tail on the left side of the subframe take a wire and jump the two wires in the plug. start the bike and read the flashes on the dash.
