Help a noob out wit f4i problem

I just recently bought a 2001 f4i. i have the bike around a week and realy havent beat up on it at all.Today i was riding and i started to hear a rattle which seems like its from the top of the motor.now everthime i ride it when i hit about 5k rpms the noise starts again . i have recently changed the oil to 20/50 synthetic and filled it about a half quart extra. i relaized its a little low on coolant.Would either of those cause the sound.Any help on this is would appreciate it im new to f4is and could use some help.

not sure but mine makes a loud noise a higher rpms, and i think it is because im missing the rubber pieces between the tank and frame. it makes a metal to metal vibration thats really loud and sounds like its coming from the motor. ck that out.

Yup - get an ape manual cam chain tensioner. Hasnt happened on my F4i yet but from what I see and hear, its common.

Or start by checking your motor mounts and all bolts for that matter (you should be doing this check every week by the way)

Re: Help a noob out wit f4i problem

yea im going to have to check those out tom.I did some work to it todays.Tthe motor mounts are ok as far as the chain even when you rev the bike in neutral it makes the same sound. It might be the rubber between the tank . another question can the plugs have anything to do with it or would it be possible i have a damage piston?

Re: Help a noob out wit f4i problem

One of my boys said it took him an hour to swap it out but another one of my homies said 5 hours. Depends on how good you are working on your bike. I posted a link for how to do it a while ago. I'll see if I can find it.

Re: Help a noob out wit f4i problem

Here it is. I found this on the cbr forum. OMR on here said that there is another way to do it and I think he said it was easier too but this is what I found that had pics and all that other good stuff so you dont go into it blind.
