F4I wont start...
F4I wont start...
k so I'm cruising along and the bike cuts out, i pull the clutch in let it back out it fires right back up but then cuts out again.
i checked the fuses all good. has gas, and battery has full power.
it will fire for about 1/2 a second then cut out. i can rev it for that half second and it will cut out.
ie if i start it with the throttle on it will rev up to maybe only 6k? but before the revs have a chance to even drop it will cut out.
i noticed i don't get the fuel pump prime/whine like i usually get when turning the key and getting ready to start it.
i checked the one wire that runs to the fuel pump/gas tank and it was running 11.2 volts or whatever, when the key is in the on position. so it's definitely getting power.
I'm going with bad fuel pump. sound like a good guess?
do they just **** the bed like this? randomly?
i thought i bought a honda and they dont break haha oops.

Re: F4I wont start...
that happened to me but i have an F4 and i dont know anyone with an F4i and havent had the privilege of even seeing one so sorry if it doesnt apply to your bike but anyway the fix to my problem was that i forgot i had my fuel set to reserve. now i thought the way most bikes with a reserve were set up as a tank with 2 outlets for fuel one on top of the other a few inches apart so that when you reached that level you would realize the fuel level due to your bike shutting off, but that besides the point. anyway check that if your bike has one, like i said i dont know if it does cuz i havent even seen an F4i.
Re: F4I wont start...
thanks for the reply man.
f4i's have automatic reserves i think, with them being fuel injected and all. and the reserve guage isnt showing either. and it is full of gas too.

Re: F4I wont start...
ok in that case if your tank has a screen on the outlet check to make sure its not clogged. check if your pump has constant power while its running even though it dont run for a long time. if it doesnt make sure your ground wire and power feed arent loose. also if you have a fuel pressure gauge check the pressure at your fuel rail if its lower than spec you probably have a bad pump or if F4i's have fuel pressure regulaters that might be bad.
Re: F4I wont start...
the pump doesnt prime at all when the key is in the on position, like it usually did.
and the wire going to the pump is giving it 11.4 volts. so it def. should.
im going to go with a bad fuel pump.
thank god they are pretty cheap less that 60 bucks for most.

Re: F4I wont start...
ok so... i accidentally thumbed the starter when the bike was in 2nd gear. besides it lurching forward and stalling. this also caused it to have the fuel pump prime the next try... so i rode it home. HAH.
now to go wire tracing or fuel pump shopping

urns out it's a wire on my main harness right near the left ram air cover that has a wire that was clipped out. depending upon how you position the remaining wire.. it will let the fuel pump prime or not.
weird.
im guessing it's the bank sensor that was removed by just clipping it out?
