Brake pads on my Caliper

How do I set up the brake pads on my caliper, while trying to put my rear wheel on it fell apart cant get it back together without my rear brakes not working once i've got the wheel on. I've read my book that helps me really doesn't tell me much i'd appreciate it if you could explain how to assemble it. I'm mechanically retarded this is probably the fourth or fifth question I've asked.

Re: Brake pads on my Caliper

Did you loose the small metal spring clip that holds the pads in place in the caliper body? It has small grooves that the pads slide into and when the brake pins is inserted puts some tension on the pads. Dont **** around with your brakes sounds like you need someone whos knows what they are doing to help out. I saw a guy losse that clip on a MX bike and did not know what it did or that he lost it, well actually I saw the nice cast he had from breaking his wrist when the pads got jammed in between the caliper and rotor and threw him over the bars.

Re: Brake pads on my Caliper

haha I was riding it all day with 2 pads on one side of the rotor, I was just thinking what would happen if i by accidently press on the rear brake and it pushes the 2 pads right into the rotor.

Re: Brake pads on my Caliper

I can take off the caliper without having to remove my wheel right? I just put on new front and rear sprockets and a new chain and dont want to have to deal with removing my rear wheel, it's a 1999 r6 maybe it differs.

Yes you can remove just the caliper. But how the hell did you ride around all day with out using your rear brake. Like I said find somone to help you before you get hurt.

Re: Brake pads on my Caliper

I am am so sure. I would call your sorry *** out but I don't travel to FL in the winter to race anymore. Also I don't have a bike to race in the vintage class so you would have to move up from begginer and race Amatuer. Now go talk all kinds of **** about how fast you are blah blah blah, fact is that you own a bike as old as you are and if you where any decent you would definatley have something newer. Squid.

^^^^^funny shiat, gotta love SL

i'm just wonder how no damage was done when you where riding with two pads on one side of the rotor? was the caliper not grinding the shiat out of the rotor? how did you not hear something was wrong?

Re: Brake pads on my Caliper

I pushed the pads far enough over so they weren't touching my rotor I couldn't stand not riding anymore, I didn't have any other choice.
