Re: 954 tranny gear replacement

you gotta split the case... which involves taking apart the rest of the engine. (ie; taking off the head, taking out the pistons and taking apart the crankcase, etc...)
why are you changing gears? if your 54 is slipping out of 2nd, it might just be a bent shift fork which can supposedly be replaced without splitting the case.
either way, here is the manual:

Re: 954 tranny gear replacement

well here's the problem...all gears are great but when i put it in 4th gear, it rides smooth but as soon as it i hit the gas, the bike starts bumping/jumping like the teeth aren't engaging...everyone i've talked to says it's the gear but if anyone has seen this problem before and thinks it's something else, i'd love the 411...and thanks for the manual info

Re: 954 tranny gear replacement

I agree with wheeliest. By asking you sort of answered the question. Besides the knowledge of how to do it do you own or have acces to the special tools required to completely dissasemble your engine? You wiil need a mag puller a case splitting tool (not 100% neccessary) and then you will need inside and outside micrometers a dial bore gauge a dial indicator. You planned on measuring all your other engine wear parts while it is apart don't you ie pistons rings, crank journals, cyl. head cam lobes etc etc. There is a reason a job like this "cost way to much" You dont want to end up pulling it out again in a few months. My advice is to skip the big OEM dealers and find a REPUTABLE independent repair shop to do the work for you. They will not *** rape you like a dealer and wiil probably save you money you will cost yourself ******* stuff up. Yes I think it is a fairly easy job but I have 14 years experience as a motorcycle tech.
