Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
Bike 2003 Kawasaki 636
The fan is hard wired to a toggle switch.
I flushed the coolant and now run Engine Ice.
Never had any overheating issues prior to the Outside temp out going over 100 degrees.
Radiator hoses seem clear no obstruction. How do I check to see if the thermostat is working? How do I check to see if the water pump is working correctly??? Would there be any need to have the radiator flushed and dipped at a radiator shop???
Over heats with in 10-15 minutes of riding, sometimes sooner. I turn the Fan on when I turn the bike on.

Re: Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
take off the cap when the bike is cold, start it up and let it run, you should be able to see the coolant flowing out of the tubes once the bike warms up...
you may have an air pocket in the cooling system and runing it with the cap off should clear it out, tilting the bike back and forth a little while its running should help if there is an air pocket
if you can't see the coolant flowing once the bike is warmed up then you may have a bad thermostat...
and make sure you have your over flow bottle hooked up and hooked up correctly ,the bike will spit out coolant when it gets real hot and needs to suck it back in from the over flow once they are back down to a normal temp or they will run hot because they don't have enough coolant in the system with out an over flow bottle

Re: Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
i don't think you need a radiator and i have never used engine ice so i dont know how much you would need i just use prestone and water 50/50
Re: Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
I was having the same problem until I flushed my coolant and added straight watter and water wetter. I have never used engine ice, but I have heard people say that it is pretty much a gimmick.
Re: Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
radiators dont go bad unless the fins are filled with dirt, you have a blocked passageway, a leak or thick deposits inside the radiator walls...a water pump is nearly bullet proof and will hardly ever malfunction and if it does a coolant leak will result 99 % of the time. Air doesnt get trapped in the system...as long as your coolant is topped off. Its safe to say your thermostat is stuck closed. its the most obvious...i mean if your bike starts bogging real bad are you going to pull apart the carb before checking to see if it has gas....yall get my drift. Really you can run with out a thermostat...its only purpose is to keep the motor running at optimum temp....
Re: Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
air can in fact get stuck in your system ...im not saying absolutely thats the problem here but it can and does happen.....
and the thermostat also helps the bike warm up faster because if the water flows full at start up it takes longer for the bike to reach the right temp and cold engines run bad and wear out parts faster...

Re: Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
Poss the cap is not sealing the system either....you need to have a cap that is tight and seals if not it will run Hot..my buds Firehawk was running hot all the sudden and he replaces the cap and the temp droped. I guess if its not under pressure and sealed the boiling point is much higher therfore you are running hoter....when sealed it will circiulate and cool as normal
Just a poss..... if you can borrow one and test it but Def post up what the issue and out come is.

Re: Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
i ran my bike the other night with the cap off for a few minutes to bleed all the air outta my system... bunch of bubbles came out and my **** never overheateds wedsday night debo, just let your **** sit for 10 minutes with the cap off.
Re: Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
okie dokie.... Do u have a stator cover for a 03/04 636?
Re: Help me trouble shoot OVERHEATING problem
Yup gotta back Roger on that low coolant level in system results in air and I have seen it move many times in bikes and cars, also a thermostat is there for that exact reason to help warm up speed so if anything replace it, as for straight water in a cooling system is not the smartest thing you can do in a bike water by itself is way more corrosive and and less efficient in dissapating heat! Ok I am done!
