Thank you F/ingen.. stripped both engine bolts..

can't believe it!! i flipped a fast coaster (got too cocky!!! bike went all wobbily and I fell off ) both sides of the engine have now stripped bolts, the freestyle cage is next to useless at anything more than 1mph.

I've got a sick innovations cage on its way from HAI (cheers guys at hai!) when I go to fit it, what I gotta do about these engine bolts? I can see through them (F4i) So can I just take the tank off and put some threaded rod through with lock nuts either end? It won't be as strong I guess but the sick cage is braced in 2 places so shouldn't bend the bolts like the FI ones do?

Any help would be great cos i can't go riding till it's fixed

p.s coasters rock

Hey I had somewhat of the same issue with my 04 Gixxer. I had a front motor mount bolt snap off so i went from a 10mm to a 12mm bolt and just retapped it. I have a SI cage on the way as well and I sent them a message and they report you have enough room to go up one bolt size without any problem with their cage mounts but you will need to use a cap (Allen head) bolt instead of a regular bolt. Hope this helps ya. You can also look into getting a helicoil installed back to the original size.

Or you can helicoil each mount. Then the threads will be even stronger than they were.

Thanks guys, was told I can just get a hardened steel bolt and bolt/nut it through, only downside is you gotta take the tank off, but its the cheapest easiest way forward.

I was told helicoiled threads were weaker than standard??

Oh no really?? Damn it means I gotta get a shop to sort the thread/tap whatever.. on top of the front wheel/discs/brake line that got fooked at the same time.

Re: Thank you F/ingen.. stripped both engine bolts..

you don't have to have a shop do it ,just buy a tap there like 5 bucks then you just thread the tap in the hole ....

use a little oil on the tap and turn it in a half of a turn at a time then back it out a little then turn it in another half turn and keep doing this till your all the way trhough, aluminium threads very easy....

helicoils work also but make sure if you choose helicoils you get the ones that are long enough...
