charging problem...

Ok....so ive been putting my 2002 R6 on a battery tender every night. But twice now, while in the freeway, my headlights turn really low, my gauge tweeks out and then everything just shuts off....its either a stator or a rectifier....is there a way to test the volts or something to figure out which one it is? I've heard stator's last for along time, but i do have like 28,000 or so miles on the bike, maybe a tad more...

anyone else have this problem, if so, which part was the problem....TIA guys!

Re: charging problem...

if there was a short it would just stop working....the headlight that is.....it seems that the charge isnt holding after you tender the battery......they can test your stator from the battery to see if its charging correctly.....dont let the battery die or your going to have to buy one of those too.....any autozone should be able to put there tester on it and tell you if its charger....or kragen or what ever you have where you are....that might help you....good luck...

Re: charging problem...

It seems like when i took the R6 out, it would run off the battery and then when the battery was drained, thats when it would cut out....i would get like 5-10 minutes away from home...then it'd stutter and then shut off....so im guessing it HAS TO BE the rectifier or stator....right?

I guess I just have to start buying parts.....try the rectifier 1st...then the stator?!?

no no....test battery and stator first.....is the battery new....any place can tell you if its charging or holding a charge....if those two are fine then your problem should be the rectifier not converting....in fact charge that **** and put it in the trader and rip someone off and buy and 07....

same way they test an alternator....they hook up a battery tester to the battery and you turn on the bike....it will tell if the battery is accepting a charge or not....they you turn off the bike and it will tell if the battery is holding one....if thats fine its a rect....i love paid off bikes....good as cash.
