Frustrating brake fade!!!!
Frustrating brake fade!!!!
I got a f4i.....brand new brembo master 16X18, and a new full throttle adapter. I cant lock up with one finger...ever and the more i ride the woprse it gets, after 45 minutes it fades so bad i can barley overpower the idle at like 2k rpms or so! This **** is holding me back any suggestions? I have a brand new caliper and pads the only thing i havent changes is the rotor? Could this be a result of a glazed rotor?
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
just like dude is sayin, bleed it, but bleed out the entire system and start with the rear brake cuz you more than likely have air somewhere in your lines. if your rotor was glazed you could tell(it would look like it had a gloss or shine to it) but a glazed rotor wouldnt cause brake fade it would cause insuffient braking meaning it would seem like it wasnt stopping for ****, but brake fade is when your holdin your brake it will hold at first but fade out hence air in the system. when you bleed it out make sure the brake is held in when you open the line, and dont let go until you close it again. you should get a quick steady stream of brake fluid shooting out when you bleed it and not something that sounds and looks like its spitting fluid with bubbles(it will sound like a funny fart). also make sure as you bleed it you keep checkin the fluid level and add fluid as needed.
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
I have the same problem. I know how to bleed brakes...I have no air in my system and it does pretty much the same thing. I have 16x18, galfer pads and rotor and steel braided line straight to caliper. I have new fluid and everything. kinda sucks but oh well.
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
your owners manual will say when you should change your fluid, but if it does fade and you had brake work done to your bike 9 times outta 10 its air in the system. im not tryin to sound like a know it all or anything at all but im a mechanic not a bike mechanic i work on cars but the concept is the same, liquid does not compress, air does compress so when you have air in your system(even if its 1 small *** bubble) your braking power will be reduced a hell of a lot as soon as the air compresses. the only other thing that can cause brake fade is a bad master and that happens when the seals inside of it crack tear or just completely go to ****.
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
gordy your forgetting heat ..heat can and will cause brake fade and once you have gotten brake fade from heat it happens easier and sooner the next time because the brake fliud actually boils and that lowers the boiling point for the next time
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
true but im assuming noone is slamming the brakes on the bikes doin more than 140, hitting their brakes yeah but not slammin them, also the reason i didnt mention it is because your rotors would glaze over before your fluid would go bad.
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
and please don't take my posts the wrong way i am just stating facts not trying to be a dick or any thing...it is hard to read people over the net and i don't want you to think im trying to be a dick
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
oh not at all dude, i wasnt taking it to heart dont trip lol. im new to stunting(well trying to stunt anyway) so im going off of basic bike opperation cuz i dont know you guys do your stunts hopefully i will someday but not right now. so like i said from basic bike opperation is what i was talking about, also he had brake work done so therefore i was sayin air in the system if it wasnt bled correctly. but yeah your right, people eat their **** up on cars when they brake torque
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
good man...that sounds like my problem. I was workin on my coasters and got brake fade, now it happens all the time.
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
yup just change your fluid when ever you lose your peddle
motul is the best[highest boiling point] but i think you need to make sure you change it all i don't think you can mix it with other fluids

Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
Bleed your brakes good...and use brake cleaner to rid any oily residues from your rotor. If you did have oil on your rotor and your brakes go super hot you should maybe think about taking your pads out and cleaning them up real good.
Re: Frustrating brake fade!!!!
Cool guys well thanks for the input i bled all the fluid out of it and put in the motul rbf600 it seems to work ALOT better now but still no 1 finger lockups! I might get rid if the full throttle for an adapter ...all my boys that rock an adapter lock with 1 finger!
