Thumbs up Photo Step by Step "How to Dent Tank/Paint/Bondo" on a budget"

Well, I decided to give an extra set of fairings and tank the "Rustoleum Touch"

Below are Before and Progressive pictures of my progress. I will update day by day.

THIS IS NOT A PROFFESIONAL JOB, IF YOU HAVE MONEY FOR BONDO, RUSTOLEUM PRIMER, PAINT, AND A HARD RUBBER SLEDGE, well then I hope this will help out anyone new with questions.....Just food for thought. Materials cost $50.00 Home Depot. This will include everything I need for the tail fairing and front fender.

DAY 1
-Aircraft Stripper around area that I want to dent (because I want a new metal surface to work with.
-Play Egyptian Bone collector, and start denting away, (make sure you dont make your filler hole lop sided by focusing on hammering in one spot)
-Patch 2 holes I accidently made by pounding in, with JB weld.
-Sand sides, and Primer Sides.
-Make one Bondo Pass..will sand and bondo more Day 2.

TANK BEFORE::

TANK STRIPPED IN THE CENTER, SANDED ON THE SIDES::

TANK DENTED::

TANK PRIMED ON SIDES::

1ST BONDO PASS::

......That was Day 1..... I will put up more pics Tomorrow Morning of what happens tonight.

I meant that its the whole freakin top of the tank.

Im kinda biased when it comes to tank dents. I cant stand when people do the whole entire thing.

Yes it is a mild dent, but still major overkill for what its needed for unless you got a huge ***.

Looks good so far, but as Wheeliest said when you do it off the bike it may not sit down all the way and you may have to take the hammer to the bottom side for a couple of whacks. I know, but I did that!

Re: Photo Step by Step "How to Dent Tank/Paint/Bondo" on a budget"

I wanted to dent mine but couldnt get myself to do it since its to damn clean, so I went out and bought that rubbery grip foamy stuff and stuck that on, so if I ever get sick of it I can just peel it off rather than buying a new tank, but eventually I will dent it in, just not yet.

I wasnt hatin on your dent job, its just that I dont understand why people dent forward of the gascap. to me it just seems kinda pointless.

Re: Photo Step by Step "How to Dent Tank/Paint/Bondo" on a budget"

Well Thank You Rustoleum brand "Ultra Hard Enamel Epoxy", This **** gives a paint booth finish, no joke,glossy as F***, **** is hard,goes on thick and best of all WASHABLE/WAXABLE ! ! ! So far I have put 2 coats on, im about to wet sand this coat you see and then apply my final coat.

...I dunno, im very very happy with the results of this product, I ended up applying 4 coats of bondo, sanding with 60 then 150, between each bondo run. It COULD be a bit smoother, but hey its a stunt bike, two day project. 50 bucks later, 1 can of primer for everything, 1 can of finish color, a small tub of bondo, and I even bought a Ryobi orbital sander for $30 ! ! !

looks much glossier in person.
