keeping that front wheel up!

Aight, we'll go ahead and call me stupid b/c I've only had my bike for probably 3 weeks and I'm already doing wheelies.....my 1st bike too by the way. Anyway, here's the problem I'm having now.

I'm bringing it up in 1st, by just rollin at about 6k and then punching it. Most of the time I can ride it out until it redlines, when that happens the front end drops right back down. While this is fun, I want to see how much further I can go -

Now do I start trying to shift into 2nd while it's up? I've tried a couple times but as soon as I go to shift I drop it. Should I even pull the clutch in to shift or should I just shift w/ out the clutch?
Let off the gas a little when I shift or keep it pinned?

Just a few newb questions -

Does it jump a little higher when u shift or is it a pretty smooth transition? And do ya keep the throttle where it's at or let off a little?

No clutch shift.. put pressure on the shifter with your foot, (pressing up, obviously) then let off the gas and crank it back on again. Thats how you no clutch shift. Practice on the ground first.
But if you wanna ride out your wheelies longer, get that front end up a lot higher. It might be scary at first. but Get that thing way up in the air to the balance point.

Shifting makes it last longer as well.

clutch it up in second, that's what my friend does on his r6 and it works fine. once you get it high enough you won't need to shift out of second.

it'll take some getting used to, that balance point is way the hell up there

also to shift in the wheelie use the shift w/o clutch but also like they said you gotta be up high enough to catch it,so basically you have to bring it high enough to where you can't see infront of you, thats usually your balance point/or high enough to be able to catch it. just be careful, always cover the rear brake, tap it if you feel your to high. takes practice. lataz,

lol, I don't know if this is b/c I'm still a newb but when I have that bitch up in the air I forget all about the rear brake. It's just "Okay keep it up", or, "don't bring this bike back over on ya"....lol

These ppl doing these slow wheelies, are they just clutching it up in 1st to the balance point and then barely giving it any gas or what??? Those are a trip to watch in the vids...

Dude, no clutch shift. I once knew this dude that shifted in his wheelies and I asked him how he did it and he said he just blipped the clutch and shifted. I stood there and looked at him like he was retarded for awhile. Anyone else clutch shift in wheelies? That just blows my mind.

Next, I am not picking on this guy with R6 or anything, but it's killing me to hear him ask about slow wheelies and stuff. On the weekend rides where all the new guys come out, I see them trying 12 o'clocks and putting wheelie bars on. Most of these guys can't even ride out a frickin standup yet and their trying 12s. What the F? My opinion only, but shouldn't there be like a right of passage on wheelies??? Shouldn't you be a well rounded wheeliest before attempting 12s? I guess I am just venting because the first time some newbie surpasses me on 12s, it's gonna **** me off, cause I have paid my dues learnin how to do 2-3 mile standups and sitdowns.

Yeah, your right. It's just kinda sad to say it though, what was cool yesterday is old school now. I remember a couple of years ago I saw this dude on the freeway in Ohio clutch a sitdown with t-shirt, shorts, and no helmet...and I thought, wow that was the coolest thing I ever saw. I guess that's why I started stunting.

When I think about 12s it's like the hardest thing for me to do right now, I guess that's because it's one of the only things I got left to learn. I see guys who 12 and automatically think, "wow, that guy must be at the top of his game". But, in reality, all I am seeing him do is that, he may suck at everything else. I'm just being a disgruntled stunter I guess. It's an ego thing. I'll get over it. all

Hooked, just be careful and take it slow. A few years back when I was starting stuntin and didnt know ****, I saw a buddy do a 1st gear and shift into second. Looped quicker than I could S@#T myself. If it wasnt for the helmet, he would be ridin in the clouds. 1st to 2nd can be twitchy. Low RPMs and height are the key. I learned 2nd gear wheelies on my R6, bouncing it first and then using the clutch. There is no right way, but they feel much smoother than messing with 1st(unless your workin on 12o'clocks). Definately dry shift doing wheelies, no clutch. to each his own, practice em all. Im with you Sclevela, Have fun and tear it up.

Just so ya know, I wasn't asking so I could try them. I was just curious how they are done. I'm psyched about stuntin and just want to soak up as much info as I can.....that's all -

As for the "right of passage on wheelies....c'mon bro. It might make more sense to be a well rounded wheeliest before attemting 12's but if someone can do them and not standups then more power to em. I don't plan on doing 12's for a long *** time, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna diss the guy who just got his bike and can do them....****, props to him. He's a

skillz is just really niceskillz is just really niceskillz is just really niceskillz is just really niceskillz is just really nice
as far as a right of passage goes for learning to wheelie I think its great that newbies are learning slow wheelies , brake control and are getting a better understanding on the dynamics of doing wheelies before they go out and rip off a 100mph plus wheelie with no concept of how to use the back brake.just my 2 cents

I have a 2002 R6. I looped it after about 2 months. Yeah so I have to learn everything the hard way. But can now ride 1st gear pretty well. I'm learning 2nd gear. I think it's alot more fun! I just clutch it up, rather than shifting. Believe me it will come up in second very easily. Just give it almost wide open throttle. I'm talkin sit downs, not stand-ups. I don't feel comfortable yet standing. Soon enough. I did an aight highway one the other night. 1st one and it was awesome!
Be careful man. I thought I was the man learning fast when I got my new bike last year. **** happens believe me, I bet 90% of the people in here have gone down for one reason or another. Stuntin' is fun as hell but.....
