so i took my time using a dead blow mallot, nice and easy working my way out starting at the middle. i wanted my cap to sink a little so its flush with the dent and not protruding like some tanks i've seen on here, but i've had nothing but bad results in the past by hitting the cap (busting bolts and hinges) so i just wacked the very edge of the cap, and it did start to sink and everything was working smoothly, till i start wacking it and gas is spurting out. so i started getting this hairline crack running down the center, and after trying to gently push it back together with my foot in hopes of jbwelding it, its now totally fubar.....
i've never seen, heard, or imagined anything like this happening.
i've heard to beware of creases that will try to form so i took my time and this was not a crease gone bad, it was simply the metal splitting apart somehow, and if you look close you can even see how around the edge of the cap its recessed as well, its hosed.
so if anybodys got a gangster *** tank for sale lemme know

yup, mine did the exact same thing bro. 4 THICK layers of jb weld later, and it still leaked. Just said forget it, and bought another tank....

Cant you get a lead worker to fix that for you. They specialize in fixing sheet metal cracks and other things. I think that would work for the cracks but good luck fingind one.

 

^ well i do know this one dude who i work with down in the shipyard and he's like a master welder and i've seen him do some gangster ****, right now he's cuttin my stock exhaust, so i'll see if it can be tacked up or if one of you has a schpare lemme know i got a mint upper i can trade, i also got a stator cover, and hmm, a gsxr oil pickup....

 

how much bondo did you have to use because that didnt come out like that without having to do body work looks sick though

 

there is not that much bondo on it at all to much and it would have cracked

 

Use this stuff from wal-mart in the red tube called "seal all." Its meant for gas tanks and is petro resistant. I cracked my tank the same way in dec last year and this stuff has held up since then. NO LEAKS

 

Its always fun to watch people weld gas tanks. Have fun with that.
