2nd gear

My bike pops out of gear at 6k in second. The shop told it would be about 800 bucks to fix, bent shift fork. Said he could under cut the tranny, but i might as well buy a new motor. Ive got new valves, rings, gaskets and other **** into this motor, what are my other options? Im just learning how to wheelie and it makes it difficult.

Re: 2nd gear

it SOUNDS like it's just the shift fork, you'll just have to rip the motor down to replace it.new gaskets again should be your only expence besides the labor and fork it self.for 800 it would be better to just buy a new motor.if your good with tools get a book and do it your self.

Those older zx6's are known for that. I have a 95 zx6 that I picked up for dirt cheap that does the same thing. You will probably need to replace 2nd AND 6th gear, since they ride on eachother in the gearbox. I bet you your bike also pops out of sixth gear also, its just not so obvious cuz your not beatin on it in sixth like ya do 2nd.

I have a link to do it yourself, I'll post it up later. Its like a 100 bucks in parts, the rest is labor.

it dont pop out of 6th, it drops into neutral. Its actually at the shop right now, getting rings, so I talked to the guy and he said he would do it for 400 since he allready has the motor out, still sounds steep to me.

Its all labor dude. Think about it. $100 bucks an hour, and they have to split the case apart....

+1 They all wanna fix the stuff that you've done so that you can do the stuff that we do.....last time a machanic saw my bike he said I should replace my subframe (guseted), put in a new tipover switch, and put my oil over flow back to the airbox......and thats just the stuff that he could see
