need help measuring cam chain slack (pic)

Hey guys I have installed an APE mcct not too long ago, and I have since always been worried that I have overtightend the thing so I decided I wanted to measure the slack in the chain to determine if I have it set right.

I have already removed the valve cover and am looking at the guide and the chain, I just want to know the proper way to measure the slack.

Here is a picture of where I'm at in the process.

I thought you would just tighten til the rattle goes away? Explain?

I just feel safer being more exact than "till the rattle goes away"

I believe I should just remove the two bolts for the top guide and measure the deflection of the chain in different spots?

making sure the chain doesnt skip any teeth.

does anyone see any problems with just removing those two bolts while leaving all the others torqued?

Put it on hand tight with your fingers and the motor off, then run the engine and turn it in till its hand tight again and the rattle goes away.... Done 10 different bikes like this and never had a problem.....

sounds like a good way to tighten it. you can't go too tight with fingers.
