Help! I bought a gas tank for my f4izzle off ebay. They sent it to me, and stupid me somehow closed the gas cap. So now that I go to put it on, i realize its closed, and cant get it off. Anyone know how to do this? I need to ride tonight!


p.s. before anyone goes to thinking I got a hot bike...I dont, just need to figure out how to get the cap off a new tank I bought...

 

I'm guessin you do have another cap since you don't have the key for this one and ridin with the cap open is prolly a bad idea.

So just drill it out and put a new cap on if you got one.

 

yeah I've got the cap from my old tank. I'm gonna try this other method, and if it doesnt work I'll try to drill it out. Thanks!

 

I took it to a locksmith who picked the lock in about 1 minute for $5.

 

take a flat head screwdriver... hammer it into the key hole... wiggle, turn... done.

Nah, not me...

No criminal, just frustration.... so out came the hammer.

Worked like a charm too... you can even put it back on and just use the screwdriver whenever you need to fill up.

 

 

take a flathead, hammer it into the keyhole (making sure its a LARGE flathead) put vicegrips on it, turn it the normal direction. Itll open like butter. NO, for all you would be criminals, it wont work on the ignition-too many tumblers, too strong.

yup, the screwdriver method works. Took 2 tries, because my first cheap screwdriver broke lol...thanks guys!

 

thats what i did 2 like 3 gas tanks lol

 

when i broke mine open i used a washer on one of the allen screws to hold the cap down. Just find one big enough so it covers the cap..

 

I dont think they would have shipped a tank full of gas. That and if you put the flathead on top of it then push donw there would be no spark.
