Another handbrake thread, sorry.

Sorry, but what master cylinder/lever do you use and from what bike?

I'm not talking fullthrottle kits here, as much as I want one I can't afford it so I'm buying an adaptor kit and need to get a front master for it.

I'm on a budget so can't afford brembo's either... been told radial cylinders are the best, like from 04 onwards R1 and 03 onwards 636? but someone else has said you don't need radial so I'm a bit lost as to what is the best to get..

want the best braking power possible for reasonable money.

i've had a search around but most mention brembros or full throttle kits.. so I thought I'd post up instead.

Re: Another handbrake thread, sorry.

Well knowing what a friend has got an 04 r1 master for, I'd say about $100 or so? I'm from UK so thats about £60 GBP.. no idea what the going rate is, I know there are new brembos on ebay for £115.00 so I should be able to get something relatively decent for $100 ?

thats just for the master by the way, already settled on the adaptor kit as its half the price of the fullthrottle one.

Re: Another handbrake thread, sorry.

No, $100 just for the front brake lever/cylinder

The adaptor and line is seperate, so i guess thats $200 in total...

Re: Another handbrake thread, sorry.

thats about right. youll get a SS line if that adaptor is like $30. keep youre rubber line from the rear MC to caliper for now. i dont know how large your town is but most towns have a business or 2 that are dedicated completly to brakes. have them make you a line. its real cheap there. no mark up at peformance auto places and motorcyles shops. you can get a rubber line from them for cheap..if you really wanna save cash. plus you wont have to wait for shipping times.

i have an old (1995) gsxr master (non-radial) and rubber lines through and through and mines works just fine. it could work a little better at times but thats due to the horrible MC. i guess a weak HB setup will mae you better with your throttle control

Re: Another handbrake thread, sorry.

Thanks for the help, I was looking at this hb kit which comes with a line..

http://www.haibikeshop.com/store/ind...&products_id=3

so if I don't need a radial master cylinder would this be okay, from an 01/02 yamaha R6.. basically any front brake off a recent bike would work fine?

Re: Another handbrake thread, sorry.

perfect.

you can always upgrade the master later.

the only issue you might have (im not sure...it might work good) is the banjo bolt to fit the r6 MC. i cant really tell but it looks like the MC in the link has the bolt in it right now.

buy that **** up and start comboing!

Re: Another handbrake thread, sorry.

Right then, knowing that, I'll buy the r6 one or one similar of a newish sport bike and see how it goes, as you say, can always upgrade it later

Hi just watched the clip, well good! love those combo circles.. looks like the r6 brake is really good to as it doesn't seem to hold you back.. is yours from the 01/02 year one? looks like I'll bid on that on ebay then.

Stupid question maybe, but where the master cylinder outlet goes to the remote cylinder, that'll be upside down when I put it on the left side.. so does the remote cylinder just then route back up and sit on top of the bars , if that makes sense?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-2002-Yama...QQcmdZViewItem

that's the bit im on about.. just wondering how it fits on upside down.. I'm **** at mechanics so don't really know much.

Any pics of yours? :YEAH

Re: Another handbrake thread, sorry.

no scanner but yes just use a long enough hose to make it to where you want the res to go it simple and try to get it as low as you can you dont want to bend your hand down when your doing seat standers( the lever is what you want low}

Re: Another handbrake thread, sorry.

make sure the resovoir is above the MC when you bleed it. never let the air see the entrance to the m/c...otherwise youll have to bleed it again.

but once its bled you can put it lower like in the pic.

voila!

thank you come again...i accept cash/check/or card

Re: Another handbrake thread, sorry.

you can mount it low but remember air goes up hill so the chances are eventualy you will have a problem if you choose to mount the res low over fill it then put the cap on so theres no air in the res
