Rear Brake

even when i bought my bike, my rear brake was always spongy

it doesnt get any stiffer when you pump it, i tried bleeding it 3 times, it has enough fluid, brake pads are fine...

you can stand on the brake and it still doesnt lock up the tire.

the hose running from the resevoir to the master cylinder on the pedal i think may be the problem. if you pinch the line with your fingers (which doesnt take much effort at all) and hit the brakes, you can see the line buldge slightly....i've been told that it doesnt matter because it isnt the line running to the calipers, but just running to the resevoir...um...what do i do?

that shouldn't happen, think you might need a master cylinder rebuild kit, comes with a few o-rings and new piston. Sounds like the lower oring is leaking causing fluid to travel back up the "key" hole filling the resivoir instead of the caliper fully. The resivoir is just a supply and should not get any pressure.

Re: Rear Brake

basicly i think ur not bleeding it right. pump the foot lever with your right hand then hold it down, crack bleeder bolt for a sec till the lever drops then close quickly while still pushing hard on it but close bleeder before it bottoms out, repeat this 10 times then problem solved. master cylinders to leak alittle pressure into the res. its normal. if the 0-ring was bad he'd bottom out the master cylinder.

thats actually what i did. usually i pump the brake lever 10-20 times or until it builds up pressure, hold it down, open the bleeder, and as soon as it opens, i immediately start to shut it, but the brake isnt building up any pressure, so i just pump it a good 10 or so times and do it that way. i went through an entire resevoir of fluid (no i didnt let air back in the lines through the resevoir) cuz i just figured i **** at bleeding bike brakes....still nothin

Re: Rear Brake

Are you bleeding your line at the top of the rear master cylinder also? If not, that's your problem.

Simply break the line loose at the top of the rear master (banjo bolt), push the pedal down slowly, and tighten the banjo bolt before you let the pedal up.

i shall try that tomorrow...kind of like how you must bleed the master cyclinder on your hand brake?
