battery? Charging?
battery? Charging?
From what i understand the chargin system on bikes is literally fail proof other than the "rectifier"... The stators are ingenius and dont have any wear other than us stunnas bashing the bikes with ultra-violence into the ground.
heres my problem yesterday.
My bike starts up fine when "cold".. i.e. sat over night. but when istart riding it for ahwile and get out to the spot if i shut it off it wont start. HeadLight gets real dim too. battery relay clicks so apparently the battery has no juice. SO i was just jumping it off a car or another bike yesterday at the spot. once running it ran fine. Today i went out and cut pegs and DB bars down and started it without using a tender or charger... let it get to operating temp...and shut it off. guess what... no start after that.
its like my battery loses power when "warm" Im gonna get a new battery obviously but is the battery the sole problem or does this sound like a bad rectifier?
OT: has anyone had trouble with the acerbis headlights wires? its like there lose inside the housing.

Re: battery? Charging?
sounds like y ou just have a bad battery. all batteries will have a little extra juice after sitting for a while and if the fluid is low in the battery, then heat will make it weaker as well
another thing to consider is that the numbers on the battery need to match. If you use a battery that fits, but is not the right model, you will have problems. The "model number" of the battery describes the type of charging method that the bike uses, not the battery size.
Lastly, the stator on a bike is not like an alternator on a car. If you buy a brand new battery, charge it fully before use. If you kill your battery at any time, do not jump it and expect the bike to charge it back up all the way.
By nature, if you have a lead acid battery (as most bikes do), then it will wear out and take its biggest toll in the hot summers.

Re: battery? Charging?
i had that same problem and then bought a brand new top notch battery, now i have the same problem again. and pushing it is a b1tch, something you think would be quick and easy, nope, takes like 20 tries when its cold

Re: battery? Charging?
Stators can wear out they loose there charging properties the copper dies out and the rectifier is usually to blame due to it shorting out inside. If you get it to the point where it dies feel the rectifier and if its hot its JUNK.
