01 Gsxr Oil Leak
01 Gsxr Oil Leak
i have an oil leak either behind my sprocket or where the clutch rod goes into the motor. i was told that the seal behind the sprocket is easy to do but how ofter does the clutch seal go? and how do i really find out which one is leaking. i tryed to clean it up then ran it for like 30 mins ro so with a load and pulling in the clutch and nothing leaked so today i went riding and when it stood on my 12 bar it started leaking and when it fell on the sprocket side it leaked bad. any help would be great. its an 01 gsxr 600
Re: 01 Gsxr Oil Leak
both seals easy to replace, for the clutch one just pull the rod out take off the cover under the sprocket(like 2-3 10mm bolts)and use a small pick or screwdriver to get it out and push the other one in, replace rod.
Re: 01 Gsxr Oil Leak
well isn't the sprocket and clutch on separate sides? you should be able to see what side it's leaking and if it is one of them seals or if it's a cover gasket that's no good anymore.

The shift shaft gasket is very easy to replace as described earlier. Just be sure to get a strong pick to get it out and you insert the other one with a blunt flat head screw driver in 15 minutes. You can pick the gasket up for around 10 bux if I remember right. Its kinda cool because its hollow with a spring inside to actually grip the shift shaft better. Make sure the spring side goes into the bike, the smooth rubber side faces your foot and seals the area. I cannot stress enough how important a strong pick set is for this job. You don't want to break it apart and have rubber floating around in there.
I had your exact bike last year and did it with no problems. The shift shaft bends easily and leaks a drop or so there after. Spray it down with carb cleaner and make sure that you are replacing the right thing so you don't waste time and money though. .02
