need r1 wheelie help

Okay here is my problem. I have flipped a r6 when i was learning wheelies 2 summers ago on my first standup so:
1. I am scared sh!tless everytime my front wheel get inches off the ground
2. I seem to lean forward when i try standups
3. Does my bike have too much power to learn wheelies for noobie?
4. And some advice on how to wheelie my ride

lol, i already answered you on the r1-forum when you asked this.. but i'll say it again..

get a friend to take pics/video of you. if you are having trouble freaking out about the height of your wheelies (they feel too high, like you're about to loop, etc), once you see the vid you will see you have miles to go before you're gonna loop it. just keep working and it will slowly get there.. just takes time for your muscles/instinct to learn.

what gear are you trying to wheelie in? can you balance a sitdown yet? if you can balance out a sitdown and you're having trouble leaning forward in standups or riding them too low, try bringing up a sitdown, balance it out, then half standup in a crouch and get the feel that.. might help you with your standups.

your bike doesn't have too much power to learn to ride wheelies on.. long as you're cautious about it. better to try to learn to a wheelie over 100 attempts, and be safe, than try 5 and crash on the fifth one. if you're doing first gear stuff, especially standuops, it's gonna be jerkey as hell for a while. i would reccomend learning sitdowns in first, then sitdowns in 2nd, then standups in 2nd, then standups in first.

you a vegetarian btw, what's up with the tofu nickname?

hope some of that helped.. just my .02

Dude the R1 is sweet for doing wheelies just start them in 2ed gear at about 25 to 35 mph clutch it up it's not going to snap up on you at the lower RPM so you need to hit the gas hard but start small . I find 1st gear to snappy

Don't lean forward in a standup -- it changes the balance point so that the front wheel must be higher up. The higher it goes to get balanced, the less margin of error you have. Furthermore, if a standup starts coming up high and you're NOT leaning forward, you can lean forward some to correct it.

Don't start leaning forward until you're ready to balance it at 10 o'clock.

Your bike should have enough power to just chop the throttle in 2nd gear. It'll bounce 3rd and 4th, too.

having trouble doing a wheelie with an R1? Chris from GMO never clutched his R1, He'd do crossed up wheelies on the interstate without touching the clutch. Dunno...
