Can i cut pipe on my R6?

Just wondering if I would have any performance problems cause I cut stock pipe down and drilled some holes in baffles. I cut about 4" off my 05' R6 pipe because it was sooo freakin long, I didn't really like how it looked. While I was in there I drilled some holes in baffle so it didn't sound like my moms Nissan anymore. Just want to make sure im not gonna mess anything up. Also bike has a very faint ticking you can hear pretty much all the time if you listen close and not got the motor screaming. It is always consistent and changes with RPMS, wondering if it could be fuel injectors cause thats what I was told by somebody. I bought it new and didn't really notice it until after mabee 1000 miles or so but could have been there the whole time for all I know. Got 4000 miles on now, just want to make sure that its OK before my warranty is up in april.

all yamahas are infamous for the "tick" expecially the r6, it comes after full break-in.

dont think you would suffer any preformance losses, but it will sound interesting.

Re: Can i cut pipe on my R6?

yeah the tick is definately normal valvetrain noise. Unfortunately anytime you change the airbox/exhaust it DOES affect the way it runs. I have a uni filter and a cutdown pipe,no baffle, and if I put it in a higher gear then jab the throttle the carb slides will hang and I'll get a noticable stutter before accelerating.

with a pipe mod, even a slipon, its best to get a powercommander to accomodate the more freeflowing pipe.

hope you get it sorted out!

ps-anybody with an 03 R6 has an ignition coil recall. If its not done, drop it off at a dealership.
