04 600RR shifting issues????
04 600RR shifting issues????
I have an 04 600rr motor, went out and rocked street for awhile....must admit was the first time in quite awhile that its been passed 2nd gear!! After 2 long standups down the highway and riding 3-4 more miles normal I went to turn off the highway and shift down and it felt like it wouldn't shift down, then it was like I was in neutral at the stopsign. I couldn't shift down, BUT could shift up into what I think was 2nd (but felt more like first). It would barely shift up once more and then again barely once more. Tried again after lettingit set for awhile and same problem was still there. Was wondering if anyone has had this issue??? My tranny has had issues shifting from 2nd to 3rd, where I might have to lift the shifter 2-3 times before it shifted, but other than that it was always fine.
I have a spare blown motor with a good tranny in it, but I'm pretty sure to get to the tranny to swap them out you have to split the cases, in which case I don't really feel like doing that. So unless I can find a "simpler" fix I'll just practice endoes in 2nd gear until I can afford a new motor!!!

hey, i just noticed that you are out of KC as well. I just traded in my GSXR 1000 that I had to replace a motor in for an 05 600rr. I saw that you had already been through at least 1 motor. Was it due to oil starvation, someone told me that the honda's didn't have this problem? If so should I look into a relocated oil pickup, I really don't want to go through that mess again?
Also, did you think that the rr tends to wobble side to side at slower speeds in 1st? Mabey I'm just not used to the bike yet but the 1000 ran a straight line like a tank.
And sorry but 1 more question, where are you practicing at? I have been out of the scene for a long while with a knee surgery last year and just found out the the lot by the casino has been torn up.

ok lets try fixing cheaper stuff first. check to make sure they'res nothing in the way of your linkage, if u just recently took off your shift rod linkage stuff u could have changed somthing, if every thing is tight n working/moving properly then ur good. make sure ur shift linkage looks like so

now next step, this happns on r6's alot n people blame it on the tranny shift forks but its just a simple part that wears n breaks over time. that metal rod that ur shift linkage hooks up to that goes into the motor, on r6's it has its own cover, i dunno if 600rr does but take a peak behind it if u can. could have broke n is caught n jamming it up
hope this helps ya.

Re: 04 600RR shifting issues????
that happened to me once, i used to park my bike outside. it happened really fast so i thought the tranny was fu(ked. it ended up being that where the shifter is connected to the peg had seized. just throwin in another idea
Re: 04 600RR shifting issues????
wow,.....never heard anything til yesterday...lol.
its actually fixed already!!!
when I got the motor the shifter did nothing, the rod that ran all the way through the motor from the shifter has a little bracket holding it in tight......bracket was bent out and I bent it straight and put it back together.....worked then but never shifted smooth(i.e...the 2nd to 3rd rough shifting)
anyways, thought it would be worth it to pukll that peice from my old motor and swap the parts......now it shifts better than it ever has!!!!

The RR is kinda hard to get used to, especially since the rear pegs are so far forward on em. But you'll get used to it and it'll be fine. We were out yesterday in a lot in KS and I was riding idle and trying to start to turn a circle, which just put me on the cage more often tha not!
Sucks about the Front St. Lot, I would kill to have it back. We've since lost one or two new lots, now we've been in search mode!
We've been riding at a lot in KS, but its nothing great. PM me your cell number, name, address, credit card number
and all that, we'll have to get out and ride. Thread
