929 bearing problem

a guy in some honda forums told me to be careful stunting my 929 :

"oh yeah a bit of advise DO NOT STUNT the 929 UNTILL you do something to reinforce the sterring head. the frame is VERY weak at that area. if you wheelie or stoppie the bearings will move and cause the races to force the cups to go oblong and come out. if left stock the front end will fall off or snap. an old machinist recomended that i find a guy that will make new cups out of billet and then have them welded in to the existing head. it won't fix it permanently but it will resist the damage alot longer.....

pull the tripple clamps off and take a look at the race cups they will be oval instead of round. this is where the problem lies. the front end snapping off is a worst case senario but it can happen. i had to have mine welded to bring them back to round.
it's the casting of the metal. the cast was not done with density as a primary thought. look at the outside of the casting it looks porouse.
just a warning."

does anyone else know about this? or had this problem?

Re: 929 bearing problem

Never heard of this problem in my life and never had this problem but you can convert the head bearings over to needle bearings if you want-they sell them on ebay for like 45 bucks.-I just put a set on my 636.

Re: 929 bearing problem

If the races turned oblong, the whole thing would bind up so fast... front end falling off

and 929 frames are like f'ing sherman tanks btw... very weak
