I use a soldering gun. They are cheap to buy. Mine is a gun style with a trigger and two heat settings.
I use broken parts off of other plastics from the same bike to melt down and fill in the cracks. Using the same plastic is best for the strongest weld. Make sure to sand the paint off the areas you'll work on first, and off the piece you'll use to melt down. Make a nice thick weld, sand it down, good as new.

Yeah but but cheaper than buying the kit

all you need is some plastic to use to do the bond and a 20 dollar gun and your set

Re: Cracked plastic??

if your gonna melt something into the crack, you need to heat up both sides of the crack first to work all of the plastic together.

Re: Cracked plastic??

i just bought some ABS plastic rods and a heat gun, and first glued one side with some epoxy glue, and then heated the other side and welded the rod in. ur gonna have to becareful, and bondo is a must, fiberglass bondo. it seems simple, but it takes some practice...its cheaper than getting a plastic welding kit. plus, im ghetto, i learn to use whats around me. Zip Ties wouldnt have worked, but trust me, i would have used them if i could.

Re: Cracked plastic??

You can really epoxy **** together and it holds well. I hot a chevy Avalanche and sone *** hit my rear bumper and cracked it. What should i do to the back side of it to hold it together because when it's pushed together you can't see the crack at all

Re: Cracked plastic??

dont fiberglass cuz fiberglass sucks. its always moving. if u leave a fiberglass piece out in the sun for a day, its gonna be off. plus, abs is a lil more durable, and softer than fiberglass. i still think plastic welding is better. epoxy does hold together well, but, u can always break it off again. welding bonds the pieces together.
