Liter bike that has been geared.....question
Re: Liter bike that has been geared.....question
Ahhh Whatever...
It's a lot easyer for me to jump on a geared bike the a stock bike.
It's easyer to overcome the motor with brake on a stock bike...
With any given throttel position change the rear tire rotates less with a geared bike... With that being a fact how could you agure the point???

So this more twitchy thing sould be re-thought...
A geared bike makes Everything easyer...

-1/+10 = perfect for the 954
Yes, it is more twitchy but will make you smoother. I use first in the lot, second on the street, and fourth on the freeway. It's a good overall gearing.

Idle is idle... it is impossible to have a twitchy or choppy throttle on idle.
If you get good on a stock geared bike, then gear it up decently... hop on and clutch up a wheelie w/ no brake (spreader, seat stander, ect)... you will be EXTREMELY choppy.... untill you learn how to use engine brake. FACT.

"With any given throttel position change the rear tire rotates less with a geared bike."
yes, but if you move the throttle 2mm, it doesn't equal to 1000rpm more. throttle is not 'connected' to the rear wheel. It needs to accelerate up to the new throttle setting. this needs torque, with stock gearing the engine has harder time to speed up the rear wheel. With geared bike it's really easy to the engine, and the throttle position effects the rear wheel speed faster.
954 is twisty when it's geared. stock or -1 front is good starting point. you can roll it pretty slow like that. And 954 doesn't stall that easy, so after you get it down to idle, then gear it more.
600 is better, less torque and power.

Wrong!
You can have 1000's of foot pounds of torque and not have the ability to maintain even 1 RPM.
It's Horse Power which is the ability to apply torque at a RPM. With out RPM there is no horse power. Without torque at a given RPM there is no horse power.
I am just being an A$$ but your statment is still not true. Sorry

but I have to agree with schwartz's theory - the fact is that you get less wheelspin for same throttle apply on geared bike vs. stock...which brings it back to torque...simple as that...
Re: Liter bike that has been geared.....question
the more gearing you got the harder it is to keep it smooth, that's where the practice comes into play. The smoother you get, the better throttle control you got, i rode the past summer on +17 on my 954 going down to + 13 now we'll see how it goes.
