thats not a good bike to be hard on the transmission with. And never ever *bang* anything into gear unless you have lots of cash layin around for parts. Get the wheelie to the balance point before you shift. Think about how the height of the wheelie effects the load on the tranny. At the bp you have the lightest load on the tranny compared when it was coming up. Now apply pressure to the shift lever, not alot, but firm pressure. Let off the gas just a tad while applying steady pressure to the shift lever and it will pop right into gear. If you do it this way, you dont have to worry about fuggin yer tranny up. But if you pop it or bang it or crunch it into gear, you are lookin at replacing some expensive parts.

said like a champ

try in on level ground first and see how much pressure you have to use the key is matching up the rpms wich is what will happen when you let off the gas just a little. when ever i take off from the line i rarely use the cluch.
\good luck but shugga might hook you up with some parts if it does not work out.

ride a first gear wheelie(NOT AT THE BALANCE POINT!!!)have your foot allready under the shifter with a little pressure on it to upshift, as soon as you come off the throttle and get back on it will go to second with a little more pressure. try this a few times and you'll see just how high and just how much more gas it needs when you hit second to stay up and ride the f*ck out...

good luck bro.........

hrmmm... I always balance the wheelie out before I shift. Thats just me though. It pops in gear real easy that way. I always dip the front after it switches though so I dont have to worry about flippin. Maybe its my technique but I never was able to get a smooth shift unless I was way up high.

do you really want to be learning to shift with the bike that high? I sense a rider/tarmac interface. learn to shift before the balance point, because you'll be poppiing the bike up higher initialy when you start grabbing more gears. Once you've smoothed things out, then you can shift with the bike vert.
I apply pressure to the gear lever, and pop the throttle forwards about a quarter turn to change gear. Might even be worthwhile getting your clutchless shifting really smooth with both wheels on the deck beforehand.

hey man, why aren't you doing 2nd to 3rd shifts? Those would be easier to learn cuz its not as twitchy. I dunno, just asking

don't do that on that bike...trust me. Before you know it you'll have a magical neutral.
