954/929 fork seal HELP
954/929 fork seal HELP
I can't seem to find any wrenches that are thin enough to take the fork apart.....
At the top of the fork you have the dampener rod that goes into a Black nut which is in the center of the Large Blue fork cap. To seperate the upper fork and lower fork I have to unscrew the black nut from the fork cap and damper rod. The problem is that No matter what wrenches I use they are too thick. I can not put one on the black nut and the other on the rod to loosen them....
Is there a special tool to do this? Has anyone changed seals on 954 or 929 that can explain or help me just get this apart.......

You Either Need Someone To Help Or A Fork Tool. You Can Get Your Wrench In There, But You Have To Pull The Assbly. Down And Slide It In Or Pull Down And Slide A Fork Tool In To Give You The Clearance.

The BIG black nut comes of by removing the little circle clip on top of the rod. you don't need to unscrew it.
After you have removed the BIG black nut you will see the smaller black nut that is deeper and the damper rod is at center of it. If are at this point, you can go around the problem, by turning the black nut counterclockvise untill it stops, let the damper rod turn with it. After around nine turn(preload), the preload adjuster inside the fork has gone to minimum and will stop. Then just open the black one. you don't need to hold the center one, because the preload adjuster inside the fork keeps it steady now.
It's a great trick, and even honda manual doesn't say this, but it works.

Re: 954/929 fork seal HELP
Sent a PM to you, having trouble getting the bottom fork bolt to tighten up all the way. It wants to spin the nut that it gets screwed into, inside the damper. I tried holding the damper while it was outside of the tubes and no matter where I hold it the freaking bolt wont tighten.......
