Wheelie problems...

Ok, this is retarded.

I've been able to easily do consistant first gear wheelies for almost a year, second gear is starting to come along now. Then all of a sudden, I can't wheelie for sh*t. Oh sure, out of 20 tries, I'll hoist one up...but big woop. I thought it might be my chain; because my chain was old and getting stretched out I needed a new one anyway, so I got a new one put on last Friday. But yesterday, I try a few wheelies for giggles, and it does the same thing. My problem is that every time I try a wheelie, my rear tire spins out to the right. It happens pretty much every time. My tire is old, but I've wheelied on older tires before. I just think it's weird that it always slips to the right, and no matter what I do, or how much I make sure I have decent body position and all...it keeps slipping around when I dump the clutch. Anyone ever have similar problems, or am I just going through a 'phase'? I'm wondering if after the chain swap I should give it less gas...or something.

Re: Wheelie problems...

ok id say that chances are when you put on your chain you didnt make sure the axle is straight when you tightened it up.. Make sure the adjustment is the same on both sides. Also look at you tire, if your running race tires ive had a few were there were one side of the tire was more worn than the other. So do a plain burnout standing the bike up even so it will flatten out the tire. If none of that works then its all in your head. The more you think about it moving to the right the more its going to..

Re: Wheelie problems...

you need to do standups.. and bounce with your legs.. it makes it so you don't have to clutch as hard, and it gives the tire more traction... can gixxer chris borrow your bike this weekend? he's in from CT and needs to ride

Re: Wheelie problems...

If you stand up and bounce there will be less weight on the front end allowing the rear tire more traction and it should hook. If not get an M-1 rear, I've never had any trouble with traction doing even spreaders on ice cold M-1's.

don't dump the clutch, feather it out.

best way to learn is do it in water.

Re: Wheelie problems...

Gee sure, let me go try it in water!...wait, no, I like my arms/legs unbroken.

Anyways...I am doing stand ups now...starting to at least. I was working staggered when it first started happening. I have checked my axle, even adjusted it again just to be sure. Also, tire is flat as far as I can tell, but I'll burn the ***** down a bit and see what happens. I suppose it could be in my head...two people I know have been torn up pretty good recently. I don't feel nervous or anything...but who knows. I'll try some things and just keep at it. I'm wondering *now* if I'm just hitting the gas too hard for my tire to keep grip...hmmm....must examine this...

Thanks for the tips guys, much appreciated.

Re: Wheelie problems...

He's getting alot better. Unfortunately, he has some f*cking nerve damage to his left arm, so his left bicep is basically useless. He probably has to have surgery to try and repair it with a nerve from his leg. Aside from that, he's healing nicely. Oh, and his right femur was a compound fracture...ouch.

And this other dude I barely know looped right in front of me. Wasn't nice looking...

Re: Wheelie problems...

do it in water to make your clutch up smoother. he is right. its always rainy here in hawaii and you have to consciously work at it to get it up in the rain. ive wheelied with these tires in rain, second gear standup. just be smooovthe.
