oil filter will NOT come off
oil filter will NOT come off
heres some background.
my brother just bought this bike a few months ago. we decided to change the oil. 94 suzuki 750 katana (first time changing it)
well, first the nut thing on top stripped off
we tried everything. i cannot get this thing off.
tried jamming a screwdriver through it and turning but the metal is just ripping open.
whats the worst case scenerio...
any other ideas?

Re: oil filter will NOT come off
those rubber ones are garbage. If you have a harbor freight you can get this thing.

or my personal favorite (what I always use to remove my filters)is this big mother ****er.

next time make sure you lube the rubber seal and only put it on hand tight.
any sort of clamping wrench you can get on it will work. If the metal is torn up pretty good try clamping right around the base(where it bolts up). Usually it will be stronger there.

Re: oil filter will NOT come off
this is the first time weve tried changing the oil.
i dont think its been changed in a very very long time. who knows when the previous owner changed it. ive never had this problem, even on the cars ive owned.
also, i dont know if i can get a wrench or anything like those pliers in there because of the filter. we tried a vise grips on the nut. but it just would grind down. and i had that thing on TIGHT. im not a little guy....

Re: oil filter will NOT come off
If you don't care about the filter, simply stab a phillips screwdriver through the filter and use it to twist off the filter - I have done that several times on screwed up filters.
Re: oil filter will NOT come off
take a hacksaw, sawzall, dremel tool, or whatever and cut the outer tinny metal part off. Then there should be a paper filter element and rip that thing off. then you should be left with a small pipe that is threaded into the block. Grab that super fvcking with the vice grips and unscrew it. After you get the new filter on, never change the oil again. Good luck with the "can-o-tuna"

oh my god no, just take a hammer and tap a screwdriver through it, you use the screwdriver as a handle to turn the filter, thats how i do all oil changes.
Re: oil filter will NOT come off

Had The Same Problem Once.after The Screwdriver Tore It To **** I Bought The Biggest Vice Grips I Could Get And That Got The Filter Off.when It Does Come Off Stomp On It A Bunch And It Will Make You Feel Better
Re: oil filter will NOT come off
theres a couple things you can do.
before ****ing up a filter, get a motorcycle filter cap that goes on a ratchet.
if the can is screwed up. I usually grab some chanel locks, lock on and twist it. You can use a soft tie strap and a screwdriver. You can puncture the filter with a screwdriver and use that to turn it. Just make sure to stab through the center, or you'll just mess it up worse. Hope you get it off

Re: oil filter will NOT come off
nah man, theres a tool just for that.. its got 2 jaws that tighten as you crank on it. you put it on the end of a ratchet, and the more you loosen it the tighter the grip.. best part is, it goes straight on so you can access it no problem through the headers.
