k. after reading some threads on different boards, alot of ppl agree with the suggestion of going at it with a sharp chisel. So try that first. Basically what happened is that it got overtightened, got hot, the rubber squeezed itself into places it normally wouldnt go, and basically melted onto the various surfaces. remove the outer tin-can shell of the filter, and the filter element. Wedge that chisle between the plate and the filter to try and break the rubber seal loose. What I like doing is getting pissed at it and just start hitting it harder, somthing will let go. Either the hammer will hit your hand, the chisel will break, the chisel will slip and go through a thin aluminum oil pan wall, the filter will come off, or a combination of the above. Other ideas are cutting away the can, and making a tool that fits into the holes that you can rotate it with. (think of the 2 pronged tool thing you use to change the discs on an angle grinder)
or just buy this and be done with it.

Re: oil filter will NOT come off
I'd take the Header off because it's being so hard and the outcome of not getting this off right is Grim.
I'd say use heat but man around that oil!?!?!? Yeah.
Slot the side of the filter with a chissel or screwdriver then use a flat head and a hammer to break it loose. *** I hope you get it off ok. What a drag something so simple being such a Bit ch.
