tips on doing coasters
Re: tips on doing coasters
higher idle = less clutch drag = longer coasters. its prolly good to run a little idle while learning cuz it will make the bike not snap down so hard when u fvck up and drop the clutch. and remember to get back on the gas a little when u let the clutch out. if u just drop it its like clutching out of a scrape. depending on speed and gearing that can be ugly as well
Re: tips on doing coasters
Just come back the balance point or little higher, pull in the clutch and as it comes back catch it with the rear brake lightly. Remember to lean back a little and keep your arms straight. Especially when yu start coming in @ 70mph plus, you get wobble as soon as you bring it back.
I used to love doin them on my 929, stock geared . Come in @ 70 or so, snap back into a coaster and ride it out. Loud revvin sound, then nothing.

this is how i'm learning them(in 1st gear)...go over the routine of not pulling in the clutch and getting a feel for where the engine braking kicks in ie slowing them down.(i think someone said something bout that)....then practice slipping the clutch while wheeling to get a feel for that....next make sure you have rear brake down to save from hitting....after all this 1st time trying them after wrecking my 1st or 2nd one, i was able to clutch it up from a start(not to balance point), gain some speed and pitch it back & pull in the clutch and BAMM, got it
after bout the 4th try i was revving them even though i knew better lol
also, if it starts to come down, don't try to let the clutch out to save it, jus keep it in and put her on 2 wheels
my first(or second) attempt months ago that scared me....pulled in clutch, revved it, clutch let go for some reason and slammed the bar on the ground. i bailed and the bike flew on it's side and spun like a top, bottom line it went bad real fast

Re: tips on doing coasters
ok, went out yesterday and tried them in 2nd. I'll bring them up nicely, trying to keep it steady around bp and then dip it back and pull the clutch it but it would coast for a few feet and then slam down
I'm either not back far enough or I'm hitting the brake too hard
am I on the brake or lightly tapping it? I noticed when I dipped back and pulled the clutch in at the same time it was smoother.
now if it stops raining I could go out there and practice some more
