So close...

Ok, got my '01 F4i today! Guy I bought it from said it will only turn over, but not start. It is a salvaged title so I assumed it's just the tip sensor. When I picked up the bike you could turn the key on and the fuel pump would not start, so I thought my assumption was correct. When I got the bike home I jumped the tip sensor wires (found a post on SL) and turned the key, bingo! the fuel pump initialized - I thought I was in the clear. Now the fuel pump initializes but the bike just turns over - any thoughts?

I am sure this is something simple, but I am not thinking straight, so amped about getting an F4i!

Any insight appreciated. Yes, there is gas in the tank!

Check ALL wires...it could be very simple if yer lucky...My dog chewed on some wires to my F2 and it wouldn't start...they were really small wires so i assumed they were for gauge lighting and gay stuff like that, but one was for the kill switch. check everything twice

Re: So close...

Got it! I scored such a great deal on this bike. The guy I bought the bike from bought it from an auction and never got it to run - EASY FIX!

There was a lead disconnected from the Oil Filler side of the engine and the lead for Reserve indication was disconnected. Once I hooked those up (just had to look a little harder to see them) and bypassed the Tip Sensor the bike fired right up without hesitation. Good thing is it ran thru the gears flawlessly!

Thanks,

Kerry

Re: So close...

Make sure you keep spare fuses cause sometimes they go out also and it is an easy fix.

Peace Justin
