Honda 900 with terrible throttle response HELP PLEASE
Honda 900 with terrible throttle response HELP PLEASE
Here is the deal. This bike has been sitting for a while, probably 3-4 months since I was riding another one all summer. I would ride it around for 5-10 minutes to make sure it started/ran well..... but it had no seat on it so nothing crazy, but it ran like a freakin champ.
I crashed my other bike and decided to take this out for a bit since it was 90% built. Threw some plastics on it, seat and I was off.
The bike ran fine and I ripped it up a couple times to see how it felt. Bike came up great and I actually like it better than my geared up one. I pull into my friend's house and notice gas leaking after I turned the bike off. I started it back up and gas was pouring out from under the gas tank, so I immediately turned it off (so I wouldn't blow up)….. The next day I took the tank off and discovered that the main line off the fuel/reserve valve popped off the left fuel rail, and the right side was on. I put it back on securely and started the bike up fine.
Now here is where it gets fun. Unless the bike is around 200-215 it has a terrible response when you give it major throttle. It almost sounds like its bogging or sputtering. It idle's fine and that’s why I have been confused and it took a week for it to get to this point so here is what I've done so far.
New parts
NGK Spark plugs
K&N rechargeable filter
Cleaned inside of air box (even though there wasn't anything major in there)
Sprayed carb cleanser inside of the flutes to remove minor gummy residue
Added carb cleaner additive to my gas tank
I am guessing at this point that it is a fuel supply issue. The bike sputters if the fuel selection is on fuel or reserve. I am not good with carbs but have a friend that is great with them. Any ideas and/or past experiences would be extremely helpful. If your close I will buy you a

Re: Honda 900 with terrible throttle response HELP PLEASE
to clean carbs u gotta completely take em appart, that additive and sprey **** only does so much... and make sure ur choke isn't sticking.. i over heated a carb'd bike once and my choke rail thing that hooks up to the carbs got warped and choke would stick for a awhile and i didn't know but my bikr ran like crap. also if u got friends that work on cars try to find a psi guage for testing like hose pressures and check the pressure of ur fuel pump.. should be arround 5-6psi
Re: Honda 900 with terrible throttle response HELP PLEASE
sounds like somethin with the pump....how hard were you runnin it before it did this like master shake said it happend to him maybe it happened to u...guy i rode with had this happen and thats what the guy at the shop told em 2....he never lets me *** round and try in fix his bike cuz his rich *** just buys new **** lol but yea and with those susuki stickers i wouldnt suggest it cuz then you will have people makin fun of you and your bike will still run shitty and it is now in danger of blowin up lol just messin
Re: Honda 900 with terrible throttle response HELP PLEASE
check for spark then, take one ur spark plugs out of the head and re-connect the plug wire back to the plug and turn over the bike in the dark... lets make sure its not a ignition problem before we blame it on fuel...
Re: Honda 900 with terrible throttle response HELP PLEASE
I have had a similar problem, the culprit could be a clogged pet****, or a pinched vacuum hose, being that it is a negative pressure system (no fuel pump) needs to have proper vacuum to work. (I work on bikes not teach spelling so be gentile) LOL, good luck and hit me back if that does not solve your prob!!
Re: Honda 900 with terrible throttle response HELP PLEASE
so it revs halfway decent until you gas it hard or put a load on it then it stumbles? sounds like fuel pressure. make sure your lines are straight and your fuel pump is active, pushing pressure and volume.
My hurricanes fuel pump conked out and I threw on a generic autozone one for 29 bucks

Re: Honda 900 with terrible throttle response HELP PLEASE
Thanks again fellas, but it is looking more like gas or maybe airbox at this point. If spark was bad it would idle rough and this thing purrrrrs like a baby tiger. I am going to take the tank off, flush it and flush the pet****/lines. The previous owner painted the bike and hit the inside where the fill is. I've noticed during fills that the gas disolves some of the paint so that could be clogging the screen/pet****/lines......
Easiest first at this point and that is rather simple. Else, I am 12ing this thing into Long Island Sound.......
.
Thanks again everyone for all the ideas/concerns to look for.

Alright all, here it is. The airbox was losing pressure/sliding off the flute where it mounts. I was able to get the box on there good, hold it down and tighten it up. The bike runs mint and still purrrrs like a baby tiger.
Thanks again for all the feedback/support.
