Making a stock f4i pipe a shorty?

Has anybody cut the stock can? It's welded at the end instead of rivets. Just wondering if anybody has done this and can give advice. If you have pics that would be nice too. The stock can is super long.

Just did mine. It's not as easy as we thought. First of all, there are three chambers in the cannister. You have to figure where you want to cut -- a chop saw is what we used (don't forget it's stainless steel so get the appropriate blade). Then we had to cut down one of the pipes inside because it didn't match up. This was the easy part.

Welding the damn thing took the longest; because of two things: 1. the ends didn't match up perfectly and 2. a fiberglass lining was contaminating the welds so it took extra technique.

Total time was around 1-2 hours, but keep in mind a experienced welder did this.
Anyhow, if you're thinking of doing it -- the only thing I recommend is to be sure to remove or clear the fiberglass lining before you start to weld. Good luck...

Hope this information helps because I didn't have any before I did mines. PEACE...

1) Get access to big chop saw, like at a muffler shop (midas, custom muffler, wherever) sometimes, a sixpack will do the trick if you don't know people.....hint..hint.....
2) Cut the endcap off right on the stock weld.
3) Decide how much to chop off, and monster truck that ish, dont worry about the fiberglass that will fly (I recommend a mask, or atleast half-a$$ it and use your shirt) you want to atleast cut off 6 inches, mine is cut way down for really leaned in circles.
4) Access a wire-feed gas shielded MIG welder, or pay someone to weld it. The fact that it's stainless doesn't matter, you can just weld it with normal steel welding wire, just turn the heat down, and only weld a half inch section at a time so you dont melt through it, since it's really thin.
5) Put it on and rejoice in the fact that you don't hit that thing anymore.

Oh yeah, don't worry about the fiberglass when you go to weld it, unless you are burning through the metal it shouldn't be a problem. There's no way its worth the time to try to pull it all out. Remember that the straighter you cut it, the easier it is gonna be to weld back together.

Don't pull all the fiberglass out, just where the welds are.
